20 miles round trip with no problems. Its all about how you set it up. Bar ends or something similar make a HUGE difference IMHO, since they add a few hand positions. A saddle that fits you helps also, I swtiched to a wtb saddle on my dahon, the stock saddle was fine but the wtb was worth the $$.

I thought folders are designed for short distance commuting... home - train station - work - then back. Actually come to think of it, I've read threads where people do long tours on them... but not as a daily commute.

My commute is only 3 miles (5 km), and I often ride my folder. My folder (a Birdy) is also my preferred long distance bike - I do day rides up to 60 miles (100 km), and have recently started self contained touring on it.
Folders are very versatile - but also a very varied breed. Not all folders are equally well suited to all things. Some fold tiny, some ride great, some fall somewhere in between. The main thing is that you are comfortable - in that case you can do any distance (though you might do it slower, if your particular folder is less performance oriented).

My normal commute is only 1.8mi each way but this month I rotate at Harlem so I'm doing 4.6 miles each way...it's faster then the train & way fun. I do it on my Downtube 8H and avg about 10-12 mph with trunk bag, etc. I think I want drop bars & a better (or more fitted I should say) seat & it'd be easy to go twice that every day!

My normal daily commute, on a Downtube Mini, involves 16 miles on the bike and 110 on the train.
This time of year it's more like 14 miles on the bike and 130 on the train. Occasionally I take an earlier train home that puts me on the bike for an additional 12 miles or so.

Commuting on a Citizen Tokyo - 10 miles each way, if I do the full commute. Takes about an hour and thirty minutes depending on route and traffic. I often do a partial commute - 3.5 miles to a subway station, then fold and ride to work. And I'm a wimp - fair weather rider, not too hot, not too cold.
