Walked just over 7 miles in just over 2 hours on Sunday, checked out a couple of potential new dwellings. One of them I kinda liked from the outside, but seeing as how my wife is going on medical leave and the std only pays 60%.......

Wow, you're fast! I still only walk, on a good day, about 2.5 mph max. But I am up to about two hours a day, so I'm getting around some. You have been a true inspiration to me as I've been getting serious about walking every day. Thanks for sharing your story here over the months and years!

I'm currently averaging a 3.0 mph pace, which is down from ~3.8 mph two years ago. Learning to use the cane has slowed me down a bit, but I need to figure out a way to pick up the pace in order to keep up with the dog I should be getting next year (been accepted, just waiting for schedule confirmation and travel arrangements).

Walked to the bus stop this AM, as I am going to a bar after work and don't plan to bike home. Took the bus, subway, and then the streetcar that misses my office, so I could walk the last bit by a favorite coffee shop and get a coffee and blueberry scone.

Great news! The dog'll definitely keep you walking, and your lifestyle seems perfect for this. They were wise to select you.

You're still a speed demon compared to me. I can't go much over 2.5 mph before I get some symptoms. But what I lack in speed, I make up for in tenacity! IMO it's more important to go far than to go fast.

The past week was kind of a weird one for me ... extremely busy in the early part of the week so not much walking and no cycling. Then Rowan drove me around on Wednesday, although I did walk between uni and work. So all up I walked 12.3 km.

The weekend wasn't brilliant for weather ... we had been thinking of doing a ride from home on Sunday, but ended up changing our minds and riding inside instead.

Well done.

You can always get a skateboard to use to keep up with the dog. Let it pull you.

Daily minutes of walking this week:120, 120, 70, 110, 135, 140, 110. Boy are my dogs barking! But the aches and pains are finally starting to die down some.

The best thing I saw was probably some great big snapping turtles swimming in the river, rising out of the green depths like prehistoric monsters and sleeping on logs on each others' backs.

The weirdest thing was a parking lot under a bridge I was walking over. It was full of hundreds of brand new Cadillac cars, gleaming so bright in the sunlight and hurting my eyes.

Went for a stroll yesterday- 6.08 miles in 2:09:32. That is total elapsed time as I didn't pause the app I was using when I popped into a QT for a snack and drink.

Walked 6.25 miles in 2:09:05 today. Decided to climb up a hill that I haven't walked up in quite some time. Though I haven't been walking near as much lately, I had no issues this time- either the blood pressure med is doing its job or my fitness is improving .

I've been noticing the same thing. Hills don't seem quite as big and steep as they once did.

Walked 6.94 miles in 2:25:27 (per Caledos Runner on WP 8.1). Had my Sony action camera with me and took some pics. Quality isn't the best, but I'll see if I can figure out how to upload one of something that I've been shaking my head at for as long as I can remember....

...I had to crop it some, but I think you'll get the gist. And if you still can't figure it out, it is the gas meter at the local Whataburger.

My theory is that we gradually erode them as we ride over them.

That's not right!!! We've had a couple houses here in Lansing blow up (literally) because a car hit the house right by the gas meter. And they weren't even exposed to traffic like the meter in that pic seems to be. I might avoid that block on my walks, if I were you.

Yesterday evening I rode 3.3 km to and from the Beer Store after work. Notable mostly for the fact that I passed a guy loading his car up with empties to return on the way out of my neighbourhood, and then passed him again as he was entering - and I was leaving - the store.

The wire mesh basket on my rear rack worked perfectly for my own empties, and the up-high weight of 12 full bottles didn't throw me off balance too much on the return trip either. I'm used to using panniers on my touring bike, with the weight lower, but can't put panniers on this city bike since mounting the basket. I am finding that it works pretty well as-is, though. Eventually I might switch to a style of rack that allows for mounting a basket on top as well as paniers lower on each side thanks to an additional rail:

Really enjoying how cycling is expanding my sense of what qualifies as "nearby" in the neighbourhood. This beer store is north of where I live, whereas typically I would walk or take the subway to one of the locations east or west along a more major street.

Busy, busy, busy weeks lately with work and uni and health issues (but not mine this time!).
I haven't even had much time for ...

So after doing a 12.3 km walking week in my previous post, the next week I upped it to 19.55 km, and last week I reached 20.1 km.

Mostly utility walking as usual. I haven't had much time to go for recreational walks, although I did do a little bit last weekend. A couple beautiful walks on the beaches up the east coast.
