I was looking at the posts in this thread from 2007-2008. Lots of pioneers back then. I take my hat off to you all. Now, a duffer like me can spin a wrench and put together a bike.

Here's my first build from last summer. It's a 1990 chrome-moly steel Trek 850 with a 500W 36 volt geared rear hub. Weighs 51 pounds and tops out at 20 mph. Mostly run at 12-15 mph in PAS 1. Not too expensive. Motor and battery under $500 from ebay. Pedals easy and I like it. Will be adding a suspension fork to the front this summer.

I just got this one running over the weekend. 750W BBS02 on a 2001 alloy Diamondback. Weighs 53 pounds. Good grief, speedometer says it runs 30+ mph, but I only cruise at 15 in PAS 2 (using 9 levels). Going to put in new freewheel and chain to alleviate some slip issues (which I had before i added the motor). My Luna Dolphin didn't fit the frame, so it's in the bag. A better look, anyway.

Here it is...

Conversion Kit put together from different venders on ebay and Amazon.

Only thing I want to add is a proper mount for the controller box. Right now it's strapped in with a universal bottle cage mount and it seems a bit flimsy.

Wow...that's one expensive bike! How heavy is it now? Can you still carry it or do you just roll it?

Shouldn't the electric bike pictures automatically show on this page? Must we click on each picture link, or am I missing a setting? Thanks.

If you have to click on the pictures it's most likely your browser that's blocking the images. I don't have any problems seeing the pics.

I am inspired to build an electric bike. Can you recommend a few DIY kits to convert a single speed bike?

My ebikes

GT LTS 48v 25w my disability "road" bike

Wife's bike. Miyata Ridge Runner Team w/Leed 24v kit overvolted to 36. She's half my weight and keeps up with the GT pretty even.

My 3-speed Sears trike for getting around our little 1/2 acre. 52v 30w, cheaper than a golf cart and easier to work on

My first ebike, old West German Imperial, 3-speed Sachs Tornado w/24v front kit.

Let's face it, to a cyclist, ebikes are ugly. So I didn't try to take any "glamor" shots. I had the brown bike and the Miyata left over from my pedal-only days. The GT and trike i picked up to convert for specific tasks the others couldn't perform.

Update on my Electric Brompton

Shrunk the controller box and moved it to the stem.

Added a second battery and a quick release rack. Getting ready for a long group ride with a San Francisco e-Bike group next month.

I think this is the last iteration of this project. I am very very happy with the final result...

Pretty heavy with the bag. I remove the bag when I fold it and carry the two separately.

My Trike

Sun Atlas Cargo with geared E-BikeKit motor and 48v lithium battery. Also added rear mag wheels. I can get up to 32mph. I can't seem to post images so I had to link it.

My mystery E bike

I purchased this beauty 3 days ago on line. It was advertised as a 48v Daymak. Daymak has now informed me that it is not one of theirs... Does anyone have a clue what this is. I love it but would like as much info on it as possible.
It sats "Classic Davison" on the side but that is all I can find.

My sweet vintage (1996) Giant lady's hybrid with the 250W front (8fun) hub. Photo taken today as we headed across the Potomac - from Virginia to Maryland - for a wonderful 34 mile ride from Leesburg, VA to Point of Rocks, MD, and back, on the C&O Canal.

Great ride, wonderful trail, fabulous bike. Those panniers carried lunch, snacks, two extra bottles of drinks (first bottle is in the holder on the frame), plus a bottle of electrotyes, and my 2nd 20 mile battery. It was a warm day - getting up to 86 degrees (F) with a rising humidity by 1am. I had my Garmin Edge 810, plus a Garmin Nuvi on the handlebars powered by a slim backup battery in the left pannier interior pocket. Bluetooth for music, lights fore and aft. Didn't need my second battery (housed in the right pannier) as I barely used a quarter of my initial 20 mile battery (on the back rack) although it is nice to have plenty of power if needed. Turns out I used almost exclusively "human power" for the ride (avg 8 mph including multiple stops to take photos or chat with people), engaging the motor (to boost me to 23 mph) only for the 4 miles out and 4 miles back when I had to deal with highway traffic to get to and from my parked car to the ferry.

Gotta love an ebike for getting you out of traffic faster and safer. And a lightweight freewheeling front hub that lets your bike feel like a typical non-motorized bike when you want to do the work of cruising along all by yourself.

My Faaaast Ebike

https://postimg.org/image/n29cmxqgn/8f4df0b9/

Things faking faast. I held up the back wheel had my buddy twist the throttle and the speedo got up to 35mph and we stopped. Now my only question is i bought this seccond hand un knowing it was de limited and it only has a 750w engine with a 48v battery so am i legal? I mean if my engine is in check dose the fact if it is limited matter? I mean my car is not limited and i have a liscence so if a car can be de limited why not a bike yknow? But besides that its a whole gaggle of fun and scary at the same time and i love riding it.

Yup, a cheap Sondors that I have modded with a 52v 20.3Ah battery and 25a controller. This entry level ebike can now out perform a 4K - $7K production ebikes out there at a fraction of the cost. Still using the stock 350w motor believe it or not. If you're interested in the battery, this is where you can get one.

Wow...

That is HUGE!!!

Give us an update after say 100 miles, interested to see how that motor holds up to being over volted.
