Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

There are about 20 miles of gravel in the county just to the west of me. Gravel sectors need to be connected with paved sectors, but that isn't really a bother when the paved sectors look like the photo below, which was also from my ride today.

Only took one photo that involved a road, but here's one shot from the ride-event I did yesterday. Rode with a friend who was a bit slower on the hills, so I got to sit up and enjoy the scenery. 30 miles, 3200 feet of climbing, I'd guess 70% or so gravel?

Not much gravel on this ride, but portions of the road may as well have been gravel.

A'yup. Tour de Heifer.

I kinda wish I'd done the 60, but it was fun all the same. Nice, low-key event.

Hope you got something to eat at the end! Sounds like that part did not go according to plan.

Nope, was probably in the top few people getting back from the 60 (4.5hr) and there wasn't anything. apparently we'll get a discount on next year. i've done the last 3 years now and this was the first issue.. usually they are great.

This is from tonight's ride. I had to forgo the gravel bike and use the mountain bike for this ride. There are sections that are a little too rough for the 700x40 tires on my gravel bike.

D'oh. That sucks. They must've run out pretty fast, because there was plenty of food when I got there, probably around 11:30-11:45 or so.

I like starting in Cumberland. Gives you something more to shoot for at the end, riding by Great Falls (pictured) and rolling into Georgetown. Also (very) marginally more downhill.
