Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like :The Dirty Kanza". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

One of my mates is.

I've barely gotten any real outdoor miles in yet between the repeated snow/ice storms arctic weather...of which--there's another one coming tonight and tomorrow. And more next week. Been doubling down on turbo training, because it looks like come May I'll scarcely have had any outdoor miles in at all this year.

I don't know how you guys do it up there. I took off the afternoon today to go ride with a buddy that's coming into town. Gonna be 60F

I had originally planned to do LandRun, Open Range, and Dirty Kanza. But it has been an exceptionally bad training fall and winter. (And my Checkpoint experience hasn't helped.) I'm out of all three.

What's wrong with your Checkpoint? I rode with a guy yesterday that had a brand new one and he loves it.

For LandRun (actually more of a mud race than a gravel race) and Dirty Kanza, I think a bike needs clearance for 45mm tires plus mud. With that clearance, I use 38's (that measure out at about 41mm) -- because then you get even more mud clearance and can keep going when others are doing the hike-a-bike. I bought the Checkpoint because it advertised clearance for 45mm tires, plus mud. But . . . with a Di2 front derailleur on the bike, there's only clearance for 38mm (measured) wide tires and ZERO mud clearance at the derailleur. That 1mm gap between 38mm (measured) tires and the front derailleur appears, to me, to be a bad experience waiting to happen. My 35mm Gravel Kings will fit, but my preferred racing tire (Challenge Gravel Grinder 38mm) are up against the derailleur. [Trek has since reduced their clearance claims from 45mm plus mud, to 38mm, to 35mm, back to 38mm, and now 40mm but only with a specified Bontrager 40mm tire. My LBS is taking my Checkpoint back as soon as my Salsa Warbird frameset makes it to town.]

That's quite an ordeal. The guy I was riding with yesterday had what I believe to be 35mm G-Ones with his Di2 setup. I'll check better next weekend at LR.
