Wedding Songs...

A friend is getting married soon and asked me to make about a 45 minute mix to play after the jazz trio leaves I've got a few ideas of what I'd like to put in there (in line with the bride's tastes of course). But I thought I'd ask here too. What do you like to hear? What do you absolutely loathe? Any input helps.

I absolutely loathe Celebration by Kool and the Gang. It seems every wedding DJ ever wants to play that song. It's terrible.

Is it a drinking reception? if so...

The Twist
The Locomotion (Grand Funk version) (nothing like seeing a bunch of drunks in one huge line)

No wedding mix is complete without Nine Inch Nails "Closer" backed with Dixie Chicks "White Trash Wedding."

Moondance - Van Morrison
Light My Fire - The Doors or Jose Feliciano (I like Jose's version)
Glitter in the Air - Pink
The Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra (played at lots of weddings, but it's a great song)

My friend the lawyer says the wedding isn't legal unless they play Proud Mary at the reception. I think Paradise by the Dashboard Light should be played too.

You have to include Al Green's "I'm - so in love with you"

On a serious note, Jimmy Buffet, Slow Boat to China, and Brown Eyed Girl, both good wedding songs, since they were played at our wedding.

I thought is was Federal law that 'The Wedding Song (There is love)' had to be played at all weddings.

+1

These two oldies are a little too cheesy to be enjoyed on any other day but a wedding, but what the h311:

(Goin' to the funeral and we're... gonna get buried...)

And of course, the DJ will probably also include the theme from Married with Children...

i am getting married this summer. i plan to leave the wedding in my porsche with this playing:

lyric exert:

And come what may, I wont abandon you or leave you behind
Because love is a loyalty sworn, not a burning for a moment.
And come what may, I will be standing right here by your side;
I wont run away, though the storms getting worse and theres no end in sight.

In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel (the Sara Bareilles version is nice, too)
Because the Night - Patti Smith
Happy Together - The Turtles

I've always liked this one:

Most of you will think this is cheezy but when I was a little girl and had dreams of my own wedding to the perfect prince, this was the song that I wanted to play.

We want to hear James Brown.

We don't want to hear Debbie Boone.

On a side note my wife and I have decided that if we ever renew our vows she should walk down the aisle to the Final Countdown.

Depends. As far as romantic songs go I think that Gerry Rafferty's Right Down the Line has to be up there, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Glp1h2E-ZQ

Beautiful by Gordon Lightfoot is another gem, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNleC6-9jyI

I've got a thing about you baby by Elvis (written by Tony Joe White) would be a fun song for a wedding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ-xn_0On1k

Let your love flow by the Bellamy Brothers. Dance with me by Orleans.

There's a few.

Anthony

Confuse everyone (I did), especially the future ex-in-laws and play this most lovely song from the Brain Salad Surgery Album (hehe, I had to bring my own album as the DJ didn't have it). btw Greg Lake haz mad chewing gum skillz too.

That was our favorite song when the ex and I got married too. Maybe the song does things to people.

I loath Muskrat Love. In the early 80s it seemed to get played at all the weddings.

Bust out the Prince but stay away from 1999 and Cream because those songs are dated and nasty. Songs from Sister Sledge and Kool and the Gang should be banned from all weddings. They are PLAYED OUT!
