Uploading photos as a newbie - attachment doesn't work
I'm currently a newbie, as you can see next to my username. I'm trying to upload couple photos to ask a question relevant to it. I'm aware that I can't use a 3rd party photo host site, but the attachment function doesnt work. It keeps saying I can't post URL as a newbie.
It's just text and photo attachments. I'm kinda lost on what I'm doing wrong...

You can upload photos, but can't attach them.
I'm pretty sure that posters are banished for posting "non-drive-side" photos of their bike!!!

thanks!
what's the difference between "photo upload" and "photo attachment"? I've tried the little photo icon to upload the photos, and it still wouldnt let me complete the post. I guess the photos just got uploaded to the album linked to my account.

I've never found the link to find other user's albums to be obvious.
However, one option would be to obfuscate the link back to your album so that other users can easily find it (and someone will likely post the link directly, and perhaps a few photos).
Under the "Advanced" editor, there is also an option to parse URLS. You might try turning it off by default and see if that gets your hyperlink through the filters.
At one time, the attachments and photos were treated differently. I believe they've now been merged into your albums.
Personally, I've started uploading directly to my album, and linking back to the photos (after 10 posts).

Yep, the 10-post requirement keeps the spammers from bothering us as much. If you're here to join the community, welcome and be sure to post more; and when you get to 10 you can attach pics. If you're here to ask one question and disappear forever, then I don't imagine you'll be around to read this post.

Along those lines...how do I resize my pic so it's not so large?

I usually target around 1000 x 1000. It seems to be a relatively good resolution for the internet. With JPEG photos, I also set it to about 70%. That usually gets me down to about 100kb to 200kb for the image size.
I generally don't upload direct from cell phones, but rather download to a PC, crop, mark up if necessary, and scale the image as needed.
Most photo editors will crop and scale. I use a free program called "GIMP" which is common with Linux, but also available for the PC. However, it is a bit FUNKY.
