Looking for a headset press that can do a threadless tapered headset.
I'm not planning to use it a lot. I would absolutely settle for one of those cheapies that uses a threaded rod, a ball bearing sandwich on one side and a washer on the other. I'd have gotten one of the amazon/ebay ones but you know how shipping from China is going.

If you are desperate and want to go shade tree mechanic on this, I have used a variation of this for a while and it's worked well. https://www.instructables.com/id/How...stall-a-heads/ And mine is even more janky with just two blocks of wood and fender washers.

You can EASILY make your own from a parts bin at the hardware store.
I will add pics later on.
the secret is to buy the "black" 5/8 threaded rod, not anything galvanized, zinc, or stainless

This is great! What do you call the silver stepped metal pieces in the middle? I wouldn't know where or what to look for at the hardware store to find those.

A long time ago I bought a press made from all-thread, two washers, and four nuts. Two of the nuts threaded on the rod, two were flanged and large enough to slide on the rod, and the nut portion was ground/filed away on the corners a bit so it would fit in the cups.
When it arrived I realized I could have had it faster and cheaper with bits from the local hardware store.
As for "black" vs. galvanised, that should not matter. It's not like the nuts won't work if there is a wee bit of zinc on the threads.
