Chain skipping help
i have found a 55 tooth chain ring and i wanted to try it on my crit bike ,
so i got a new chain to go with it ,
i tried to install the new chain ,
but it skips badly even with my 53 chain ring ,
my old chain does fine ,
guess i could get a new cassette and see if they stops it and use the cassette to wear in the chain until it sits on my sram cassette ,
but maybe you know a better way !?

Where does the chain skip? On the ring's teeth or the cassette's. The usual is on the cassette's but with enough wear miss match the ring can also be the source. Given the fact of the chain being new I suspect the cassette is worn and would suggest replacing it. Andy

Are we talking about matching components here? Are you using the right chain? Is it an 11sp chain on 10sp or 9sp parts or vice versa? A worn cassette could cause the problem but especially if the chain doesn't fit right. More specific info is needed. Brands, models etc...

im just going to get a new shimano cassette for 40 bucks and see if it holds , i have used a sram red cassette on my crit bike , i have got almost 2 years out of one , and it only broke from the inside gonna be sad replacing this one , it works fine with my old chain , i set up my tt ring for testing , with the new chain , took it out and it was just popping down the road even under slight power , switched back to my standard red cranks with the new chain , and it was still popping , so i put the old chain back on and it was back to normal , ill test it some more tomorrow
