C+V confessions: misappropriation of bike funds

Feeling some guilt (not much really, but some) so need to come clean.

I recently sold a nice Campy groupset and duly put the accrued funds into my bike slush fund for future use on cool bike purchases but this popped up on my local CL. Been thinking about a quality semi-hollow for some time now and I couldn't resist. Us lefties don't get many opportunities for a cool axe.

A few weekends busking and you'll recoup the expense.

Gorgeous, and I'll bet it plays great too. I picked up a used Epiphone Dot a few years ago and I love that thing. It's nice to have a guitar I can grab off the wall that plays like an electric but still has enough presence to not sound totally awful unplugged.

Great score, beautiful.

I can't play a thing but I always blast my tunes when riding and am a huge fan of all classic rock and plenty else.

Really love anything that comes out of any sort of hollow body.

I put new strings on and had a nice time playing tonight. Other than a super cheapo bass I bought last year it’s the first electric I’ve bought since 1985. That one, my trusty Gibson SG, is still going strong, but nice after all these years to have another option besides that very distinctive SG tone.

That's a nice one. I picked up an Ibanez FA100 off the local CL a few years ago. It's full thickness hollow body archtop ES175 clone.

Lefties Rule! Beautiful Ibanez. I lust after a Gretsch hollow body (and will have one someday). My latest purchase was this Epiphone SG.

Misappropriation of funds? Egads. This calls for a board of inquiry. Preferably held at a good restaurant or tavern. But in this case the geographic disparity of the inquisitors may allow you to weasel out of this.

Earlier this week, I was at Grey Matter bicycle shop in Phoenix hauling several truckloads of donated stuff down to the Rusty Spoke co-op. Next door to Grey Matter is Bizarre Guitar, and as I was schlepping stuff along the walkway in front of their displays, I pondered the reality that in spite of all the things I've accomplished in my life so far, I can't play any musical instrument worth a dang. OK, maybe a rhythm block. Even my kazoo technique is rather incompetent. But I've managed to live with such a disability, and I do respect those who can get coherent noise out of those expensive objects.

P.S. I am also a member of the Sinister Conspiracy.

Were the strings Campy, Shimano or Suntour?

I am left handed but for some reason learned to play guitar/bass right handed. I'm thankful for that, otherwise my collection of stringed instruments would be a lot smaller.

Lefty drums. Cymbal sales and bike sales all go in one pot. Nobody gets jealous.

Nah, you just need to lump sum your hobby money. For instance I have a 1967 VW split window camper bus that is part of my hobbies. If I were to sell that it would free up a ton of money for waaaay too many bikes.

Which is completely unnecessary as I already have waaaay too many bikes :}

I don't know anything about guitars, but I definitely would dip into the funds for a fine piece of tiger maple like that.

Here’s my SG, ordered it special from a shop in Goldsboro, NC when I was in high school. I paid around $600 of my hard earned golf course mowing money, which is more than I paid for the Ibanez yesterday. Money well spent though.

D’Addario strings - I am almost 10% sure they are made in Italy

Funny I am right handed but my high school buddy played lefty and it felt right when I picked his up and plinked around on it. My dad was lefty but played righty.

My buddy that owns a bike parts company makes my bike collection look like a rookie effort compared to his guitars. He's easily got 10x more of them than I do bikes.

Guitars are beyond my area of expertise, but I do know a lot about being left-handed. Great to see that there are pieces out there for us. Some years ago, my circular saw died in the middle of a project. Imagine my delight when I went to Lowe's and they had a Porter-Cable saw available in both left and right-handed versions. It cost a bit more because it was a contractor grade saw, but it was worth it to not have the sawdust blowing down my leg anymore.

In tune (no pun intended) with modern trends I'm surprised that left-hand people haven't formed some sort of militant group, adopted a stirring flag, and demanded recognition of their specialness and concessions to promote their lifestyle.

BITD I had hoped that Redheads International would pursue such a course but unfortunately they did not.

My understanding is that n+1 applies equally to bikes and guitars. Also note that I have room for a zero guitar next to my Gibson J45.

My sister-in-law and her husband play the French horn and trumpet, respectively. When they practice, at least one of their dogs will howl or bark along. It's really fun to witness. Does your pooch join in the tune-making or just watch and listen?

Based on the serial # I think likely a 2016. Definitely not C+V. It’s the AS93 model.

She is not a barker, just does a low grumble when she wants something and occasionally yelps while chasing rabbits in her dreams. This pic wasn’t long after we first got her and I think she was checking to make sure I wasn’t performing some kind of feeding ritual. She doesn’t follow the music as closely anymore although she does give this level of attention to my sandwich making.
