Lotus had some really nice colors with black decals on their bikes through the years. You might look at the Vintage Lotus website for inspiration.

Orange. Holdsworth Orange. I'm gettng back into orange bikes lately, have a newly repainted orange and cream Mooney on its way back to me, and just bought Shnibop's early 80's Merckx Professional, which is more of a Molteni orange. Black decals would look killer, and nobody has an orange Ironman.

While we are talking paint , at Ms.westi's request my Comp T/A track bike is Blue Shimmer Metallic by Krylon . It is starting to grow on me it's a nice deep blue . I plan to pin stripe around the lugs with gold and use these Velocals ,but not the turbo sticker https://www.ebay.com/itm/Centurion-T...19.m1438.l2649
Here is the blue Comp project . It got stalled out and still is (dam boat) I'll pick it back up sooner rather than later .DSCF2467 by mark westi, on Flickr

Looks Nice @markwesti. What components are you using on that track bike? Is that the original forks? What parts are you needing?

Hey @texaspandj , well lets see as for the fork it's a NJS (I don't know the mfg. but it came from Lotus land). The steer tube was to short I took it over to my bud's hot rod shop and we welded on a new tube , I'm sayin' good and it's painted but not yet on the frame . The crank set came off a Felt track bike the ring is not 1/8 , no biggie I really need to ask more questions to EBay sellers . The the hubs and BB are cheap crap I don't think I will use them , I have a set of rims but I would need to have them powder coated so I 'm kinda' on the look out for a set of good wheels . As for the bars it will be Nitto 123 and a death drop Nitto stem . One thing I found out about the Kashimax BMX saddle is the rails are not spaced right for the IM seat post . So I'm also on the look out for a post . I don't know if I will be going back to the Drome (a few to many Burritos over the winter) well maybe just practice day . Thanks for asking .

Man I can't believe I sold my 88 yellow fade master Ironman. It was in very good condition and the most modern group I had on any of my bikes. I sold it to an acquaintance a (friend of a friend). Good guy, young ,smart, relatively fit. I was at a birthday party a couple of months ago and he told me our home town was having a half Ironman and he was interested in competing in it. I told him I might have a bike to sell and got his number. I called last week he said he'd be by this week to check it out and he ended up taking it home. So now I want/need another 88 and still looking for an 85 to have a complete straight. It's gonna happen.
Now all I have is 3 Ironman. They all have aero bars so the next Ironman will be set up as a road bike. I'm very satisfied with the 3 I have. They all look good and perform well. But I got to say since I'm only on the trainer I still rotate my bikes. And the thing I noticed is how quiet my 86 classic is compared to the other two. I mean all I hear is that high pitched hum from the trainer. The bike just feels so smooth, solid and good. So I've decided to just keep it on the trainer and use my 89 summertime blues for actual outdoor riding as that's the one I'll be "competing" on this season. My Miami Vice will be relegated to family rides, rain rides, and back up bike. When I ride the Miami Vice it just makes me smile. An interesting thing about it (to me) is that I have installed a vintage 7 speed aero bar gripshift on it but left it original every where else, including the 6 speed freewheel. I have a 7 speed freewheel and a 7 speed tri color wheelset however I want to keep the components stock. I know they made a 6 speed aero bar gripshift because I had some bitd, but I haven't found any and I check the bay weekly. So for now it remains a 6 speed.
I know I posted my Ironman recently but here's my current stable. I need to update the Miami Vice as its now sporting a non aero seatpost, a turbo saddle, 7 speed gripshift. When I get another aero seatpost I'll update pic.

Yes John , I painted it . It's a rattle can job , Metallic Blue Shimmer by Krylon and clear coat Acrylic Crystal Clear by Krylon . I also got a can of Krylon's Glitter Blast Silver Flash , I planed to lightly spray a little glitter as I was inspired by some of those wild NJS paint jobs anyhow I chickened out . It's hard for me get it at least decent because I paint outside , at a certain point I go OK good enough . Question , not to long ago I painted another bike with Krylon and Krylon Acrylic clear then I applied Velocals and clear coated again . It made the Velocals colors run , I'm pretty sure Velocals says to use Acrylic . What do you guys use ?

And now --- for the smallest Ironman out there ................. ever !

I have seen this on my local CL for months -- @texaspandj may also have seen it too --- but price started at $250, - then $150, --- then a whopping $75 --- (Not bragging on the sale, was likely a tough sale -- in person, this little dude is absolutely the smallest size road bike I have ever seen outside of a child's 24"/24" Pinarello I knew of years ago)

A pretty cherry 2nd generation XTR rear changer to go with the nice condition 600 tri color rear wheel (8 speed) and brifters (which need a WD-40 soak) that someone was nice enough to upgrade this rig to

Kind of the "Forgotten Ironman" ---- plans are to bring it back to stock with my stash of take off parts and try to find a teen or shorter female rider to donate to ---
-- If plans change, i'll alert the board, --- but this thing is a cool little rig, and I'm really feeling like overhauling it and spreading the Ironman love

-- not a time capsule, but one that was enjoyed enough that the PO decided to upgrade to brifters in the mid 90's -- Also has some Time MTB pedals that are rarely encountered

There was one of those Ironman women's models on craigslist in the D/FW area for months. Good components, but a tough sell to most savvy women cyclists nowadays. I know a couple of very diminutive women who are avid cyclists, both of 'em 5-foot-nuthin' if that tall, and they wouldn't be interested in anything that might be seen as a bicycletta.

OTOH, I wonder whether anyone has converted one to a 1990s style TT funny bike?

should be a 46cm frames, it was offered in two sizes 46 and 48cm but the 46 was the only one offered with the 24" front wheel.

it was a one year only model 1987.

That 87 was originally equipped with 1st generation 105. That color was only available in 87.
You're right I have seen it listed.
There was also a 48 (700c both wheels)a while back in dfw for a 100 bucks but my wife wasn't interested. Apparently someone bought it then relisted it for 250.

Cool! It doesn't fit anyone i know, but it is so curious and small, i couldnt pass it up -- looks like an easy restore and i will make it a mission to find a new owner.

Its a neat machine, but i truly dont need it becoming a permanent part of my growing velo museum

@DMC707 are you going to restore to original or leave it?
I have the original rear wheel, crankset, front derailleur, and downtube shifters I'd trade for those shifters. I had the original rear derailleur too, but I gave it away.

I was transferring the saddle from the 88 Ironman(that I sold) to my MV and was reminded that the seat tube clamps are different. The masters and pre masters seat post bolts are recessed and require 27.2 seatpost. However the experts are NOT recessed and use a 27 seatpost. So makes me wonder about tubing. Both are clearly stickered Tange 1. I've always felt/imagined a difference in weight between the two. Currently I only have one expert the MV and I smile too much to care.
After almost a 3 month layoff, I just started training again in January on my trainer. I started off with a all time life high weight of 196. I'm now 190. My goal is to get down to 165 by my hometown triathlon in July. Unfortunately I won't be able to run, which is how I can generally lose weight when I combine biking and running. Instead I'll have to rely on cycling, DIET, and the dreaded swimming laps.
I'm thinking by the time I get my weight down, my knee will be completely healed and I should be able to run again. Anyways that's the plan.
Hopefully soon, something cool to post here, you know pic wise.
Later Irongents, keep those wheels spinning (even if it's indoors).

Hey - I'm trying to work a deal on one of those here in NC for daughter #2, who might stand 5 feet tall in zero gravity. Could you take a standover measurement for me? I'm estimating about 27", but if it's more than that I might have to keep looking for something with a sloping TT.

I picked up a way too big for me 64cm '88 purple haze last summer, mainly for the wheels and other parts, so if I get one of these I'll have a the entire Ironman size range covered.

This seat post size issue has come up before. There must have been frame variations between 27.0 and 27.2. My 85 IM and 88 IM Master are both 27.0 (I bought the 88 new).

I'll update it when I get home ---- judging from the pics though, it looks like the top tube is about an inch taller than the back wheel, -- but even so, I was thinking these machines would be perfect for someone in the 5' range

---if I believed the old song and dance about having to have 1.5-2" of top tube clearance on all my bikes, I wouldn't have anything to ride myself. At 5'8 and with a 32.5" cycling inseam (translates to about a 30" pants length) , most of my size 53 road bikes are riding up really close and a 54 is an interference fit

Fwiw although all my Miami Vice /Expert frames came with the original 27 seatpost I put 27.2 in them. The tightest fit being my current one.

I got a standover of around 27.75
