I recently signed up for the 30 Strava Premium trial. Of the few enhancements I've noticed, knowing the exact start and end of a segment has been most beneficial. With just that information alone, I have been able to knock off a second or two in a few local segments to move me into trophy territory. The downside is that Strava only alerts of an upcoming segment if it has been starred by the user via the app or website. And worse, the group I ride with creates the routes via Ride w/ GPS, which means A) I must ride the route first and then star the segments when I get back or B) modify the .GPX file to make it appear as an activity and star the segments that way, but this breaks the turn by turn notifications on my Wahoo, forcing me to look at the map page while riding. I don't see this trial going beyond 30 days.

I really want to be a premium member just to show support - but there's really nothing in there I want. "Sort segment leaders by weight" ??? Who the hell cares about that?
I'd like to be able to download the data and sort in a spreadsheet though.
I imagine Strava's business plan is to lasso the maximum number of free plan athletes so no one else can compete - and then start forcing the paid plans... and that's where we're at now. I'm too invested to switch... good thinking Strava.

Since the majority of the folks on this forum are criminals and/or adulterers, I'm suprised y'all don't use Strava Safety Beacon for alibi creation.

What I meant was that I'm surprised no ads appear on the Strava website or apps. I expected that the data was used for targeted ads that appear via Google and Chrome, possibly on Facebook as well.
I suppose the lack of apparent ads on Strava itself is to minimize complaints from freeloaders who want free service but don't want to see ads because ... Marxism or capitalism or something, I dunno.
Anyway, I don't care if Strava uses my data for targeted ads. Fair trade for a useful service. I don't upload anything to Strava I wouldn't want known anyway. Heck, I enable Google tracking of my movements by default, so I have a record of everywhere I've been. Very helpful as an objective witness when I was hit by a car in May. And it helps me document my medical appointments. Sometimes an appointment varies from an actual visit, so the Google Timeline helps me keep an accurate journal of which clinics I actually visited, how long I was there, etc.

Now, if Strava offered an option to sort my data relative to, say, 30something women, that could be interesting. Wait, what, I'm faster than a local woman pro on this downhill segment? Yay, a winner is me. I can outsprint a woman half my age for, oh, a mile downhill... before she drops me like a rock on the first climb.

Yeah, I'm afraid that if I used Strava to sort by age and weight, I'd still be slow even by the lax standards for slow old guys.

Maybe they'll change it back to where everything is in chronological order but only for premium accounts.

Now rides marked as runs, those I have to flag pretty much constantly.

I don’t have many KOMs, but the ones I do have are from when I was training for a 40km TT, and they are legit solo rides without wind assistance. I don’t mind losing them, but I’m not gonna lose them to some guy with a 71mph average speed for a 10 mile segment.

I'd miss 6 years of recorded data. I've got those other programs - don't use them much; and I don't use Strava for training - mostly just for record keeping and a little social networking. People made a big deal about dropping Facebook after recent scandals, but I don't see it happening because (I assume) people have too much invested in it to leave.

i don’t flag the ride often. Usually I will ask the user to edit his ride for the portion of the ride recorded while driving.

A few years later he won the U23 World Championship TT. Now I don’t feel so bad about getting crushed by the kid.

It would be nice to have windspeed and direction added to segments
and a weekly monthly and yearly kom award to weed out the cheaters , and one timers . and maybe a way to add road mtb tt or ebike to each activity and seperate the leader boards by bike class..

also the first thought in my head. That is awesome and funny at the same time.
I use strava for the segments and comparing with friends, other than that it has no value to me at all. Would never pay for it if I had to, would simply go without it.

5 or 6 years ago I started losing KOMs to a 14 year old kid that barely tracked his rides on Strava, and I suspected he was just trolling cyclists(riding a scooter).
A few years later he won the U23 World Championship TT. Now I don’t feel so bad about getting crushed by the kid.
