Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Too good to be true?

I came across an ad for a place selling bikes 90% off. Out of curiosity, I clicked on it and they have a Scott Foil 10 Disc with 50 mm wheels with di2 for $99...It retails for over $3800. Is this a fake website?

Seems totally legit that you can buy a Di2 bike for $99. You could always give them your credit card info and find out...

If that sounds too expensive, mechanical works just as good.

Looks like they reference the business address of HydoFlask. The only Scott dealer in Bend, Or is WEBCYCLERY, INC. 157 NW Franklin Ave, Bend

Good luck

Looks like a really good deal. You should jump on it before your local bike shop buys up all their stock and resells em all to the local suckers. I'm tempted myself because 99 bucks is cheap just for the tyres.

This one is painfully obvious. Scam. One thing I have noted over the years is that the easier a business makes it to find their phone number on their website, the better the customer service. The ones that bury their phone number are telling you they don't have the staff to answer the phone or they don't want to be bothered with a phone call. That's obviously not an absolute. I didn't see a phone number anywhere on their site.

The pricing is simply amazing. Like it was done by a learning computer. A full carbon TT bike is $99, but a mint-green kid's strider bike is $416. Also, framesets priced higher than the fully built bikes. Isn't one of the keys to a scam making it at least plausible? Is anyone really gonna think $99 for a full carbon downhill MTB with an MSRP of $4,000 is a thing that happens?

...and they've got every size in pretty much every model they sell. $99 for a $3700 gravel bike.

Yup.

Wow, $1 for a frameset: https://www.scott-mall.com/scott-pla...4rg3f8vrrf2g83
Do you guys think it's a good deal? Should I try to huggle with them a little? Would 75cents for a complete carbon frameset be a fair deal?

Ask them if you can go and pick it up in person and pay cash? Give them a story like you live 2 miles away.

A buddy at work thought it was worth a shot and wanted to see what would show up. He figured it would be some sort of knockoff bike. They sent a false tracking number that eventually got delivered on the East coast somewhere. He is working with PayPal to get his money back. Not worth it to me to even try to see if it was legit. But, it was only like $95 and PayPal will most likely give his money back at some point.

You can try Paypal. The website uses paypal for payments (and will only accept the order if it is less than $100) and I'm sure paypal would love to close their paypal account to save them the hassle of dealing with people who got scammed.

I don't even think it's a paypal or billing scam. I bet it's an identity theft phishing scam. Your paypal won't even be charged... at least not now. But weeks or months from now you may be cleaned out along with 3-4 new credit cards you won't be able to recall opening.

Hey. I bet the guys at Scores thought they were gonna beat the stripper system too. You should definitely order one and see if it shows up.
