I snuck in (sneaked in?) 49.7 miles on the PFN10 this morning. Left the house at about 8:30 AM, temperature about 28 deg F, light traffic. I saw fewer than half a dozen bikes today, most unusual.
At the Lincoln Town Library. I've photographed this tree before. I wish I knew more about it. If it could talk it might tell more than a few good stories.
As I turned the last corner to get home light snow started falling.

Got to take a couple of nice winter rides this holiday season good weather and snow packed roads pretty good riding for 10.000 plus feet in December even got over one of the lesser local pass roads fairly easy.

Actually, this would be a ‘Where’d I ride yesterday post. I took a photo on the way in to work along a new route, in the opposite direction of my “usual” commute.
For a year and then some, I’ve traveled west through downtown, along broken streets, over train tracks, into the “bad side” of town, all the while dodging mindless drivers. And there was really only one sensible course to follow. It was for the most part, a boring ride.
But yesterday marked the official first day of relocation as the agency I work for moved early I’m the morning after a few weeks of packing. Now, I get bike paths, a choice of bridges to cross, and natural habitat, alternative routes, and open spaces with minimal interaction between motor vehicles!
Its a shorter commute by less than half the old distance, yet on days when I feel the need to, I can take a longer ways in and back.
Options! More scenic. Quieter. And much, much safer.
For a year and then some, I’ve traveled west through downtown, along broken streets, over train tracks, into the “bad side” of town, all the while dodging mindless drivers. And there was really only one sensible course to follow. It was for the most part, a boring ride.

Incredible today... The 29th of December, here in Richmond, Virginia and the temp is an amazing 64°F outside!!! EVERYBODY was outside this afternoon!! 
Like dozens of other bicyclists, I took full advantage of the day, and got home a little while ago from a nice and easy 15½ mile ride out along River Rd into the suburbs and quiet backroads. Just barely over an hour, like, 1:03 or so on my stopwatch.

Today was a cold but good day. 50 miles through temperatures hovering around 32F. It was my first ride on the new build of the '77 Gazelle Champion Mondial.
The bike? Ah, it is, um, very Italian, quick to turn, quick to accelerate, stiff riding. My other Gazelle CM, '86, is softer, possibly because it is made with 531C tubing whereas this one is 531. Their sizes are nominally similar but it feels like the geometry is different. Certainly the fork is different. I never needed the granny ring, didn't really take a hilly route.

I tried to recruit @gugie for a ride today, but he gave me some far fetched story about wanting to celebrate his 20th anniversary with his wife. (Happy anniversary, kids!) So I went out for a solo ride featuring a beautiful stretch along Tile Flat Road. It's too bad because being an aficionado of fall scenery gugie would have appreciated this one as Washington County in December was doing a pretty passable impression of late fall. But there are always pictures, right?

I started the new year off right by riding about 40 miles on my Colnago Classic. Not too cold and I felt pretty good. I stopped to take a shot of the bike and then remounted. An eighth of a mile down the road, at the bottom of a hill, on each side, I was accosted by three large pitbulls that were loose. It took a little negotiation but I was able to re-mount and ride back the way I came. I turned onto a road I hadn't been on in a while and as I passed a pasture I heard hooves to my left. Expecting to see horses I was a little surprised to see zebras, yep zebras, a herd of them. When I stopped to take a pic they got spooked and went back over by the barn, quite some distance away.
With the safari over, I headed back on familiar roads to an old farmhouse where a very old German Shepard lives, I hadn't seen her in a while. I didn't take a picture of her today, the one posted is from a little while back. We had a good visit (as we always do) and she watched me ride away, sitting at the end of the drive. I was getting kinda hungry so I turned towards home only to find the road closed because of creek flooding. I ducked under the bar gates and went anyway. I've lived here all my life, I can look at the creek and tell if the road ahead is passable, it was; albeit wet and muddy. I cruised up the hills and rode into town and home having traveled further than the miles I covered. It's a good day to be alive

First ride of the New Year was dry, if a little cold. Finally broke out the full-leg tights, tripled up on layers and hit the road around 11pm. My ears were freezing after the first few miles! I have a fleece-lined balaclava on the way to solve this problem, tho, so it's all good.
About 30 miles all told. The new Barelli pedals were nice, though I noted if I didn't snug down the toe straps fairly tightly the soles of my Sidi touring shoes slid around a bit. But they sure felt like a solid platform.

I love this picture. Representative of many a ride on the milder days of winter in the PNW. I can almost feel the chill, and dampness of a ride like that in the Snoqualmie Valley where I live.
I want to hop on a bike so badly and ride but am forcing myself to follow Dr's orders to stay off the bike until after my next follow up in late January.
Here's how bad it is:
Every day, I pull down the Holland from the garage that I have just built up and roll it into the TV room. I straddle the bike, hold the bars, squeese the brakes, put it on a bike stand and shift the gears. Sit back and simply look at the thing until I feel a bit foolish about it then put it away.
I miss riding alot.
Sometimes a photo like this comes along to help me drift away imagining I'm out there riding a quiet country road.
