Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

IQ2/iQsquare Power Meters

I noticed on their Kickstarted page they said they had an announcement for this Friday. I don't see this link posted on their site but all knowing Google shows this as a new page on their website. I wonder if they will announce new SPD and SPD-SL powermeters? Since they never delivered on their kickstarted I'm not sure these will ever make it to market.

So they haven't delivered on their universal pedal system but they're going to launch SPD/SPD-SL versions? Scummy.

edit: on their non-hidden shop page, it does say that the expected delivery date of their original product is May 2019, so maybe that's the announcement, in addition to the new product. If I were a backer, I would be a little frustrated that they'd diverted time and resources for these other products while failing to launch the original product on time.

Would not consider this with out reviews from DC Rainmaker, and GP Lama. Ray, and Shane will tell if this is any good or not, currently it's just vaporware.

Agree. Too many power meters have been vaporware.

I've been watching intently since October. Their facebook page is probably the most accurate and up-to-date source: https://www.facebook.com/iQ2powermeter/

They had issues with the original product and have been kinda hush-hush about what Friday is about. Ideally it's releasing the original pod. If they've wrapped it into a pedal too, that's ok, but if they reneg on the original product, lots-o-peeps are gonna be not happy....

So do you think the Friday announcement will chance cycling FOREVER?

They changed their web page and these products are now gone, just leaving these screenshots here. I'd really like a SPD pedal based powermeter so I was hopeful this would make it to market.

So did they make an announcement on Friday?

Edit: Damn. My week is all messed up. I didn't realize that today is Friday. *sigh*

They just posted an update on indiegogo - https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/c...e#/updates/all

They're saying August is the target ship date for road and MTB-style pedals.

PIVOT!

So the pods are gone, and it's (only) pedals. Must have been too difficult to get the form factor nailed down. New date: August.

I wonder how they will honor early backers (and anyone who pre-ordered and don't want to change pedals)...

The good? They got rid of the q-factor issue some people complained about. The bad? No pods? August?

Looks like they changed their web page just as I was posting as their site is now updated with the new product. The prices are significantly higher than what was posted earlier this week and the delivery date went from May to August.

if they pull this off, they will be successful. Keo-compatible (where Garmin and PowerTap are Keo-ish, but not compatible) and dual-sided for less than single-pedal options currently out there. They may sell a boatload...

August? That's only 3 months away.

Considering how much the original design was delayed 3 months for a completely new design seems optimistic.

Garmin Vectors are compatible with Look Keo cleats.

I wouldn't say "optimistic" so much as "delusional". It'll take 6 months just to get prototypes plus testing....and presuming they actually work, they still need to update software/firmware--then get them mass produced. Another 12 months is more realistic.

Not too difficult to nail down a form factor....read between the lines....the people at iQ apparently didn't employ someone who knew about how strain gauges work--or really thought about implementing them. Because looking at it, it is a "no $%^&, Sherlock" their pod design wouldn't work. You have a sensor accurate to nanometers, and you have not 1 but two sets of thread the pod will work on/against--of course putting a strain gauge there will generate a ton of noise and unreliable data.

Maybe they thought they could clean up all the signal noise in post-processing. Who knows....either way when they say that only when they tested the "mass-production" units and found the problem....it should have been evident in prototyping it wasn't going to work.

Bump.

August is long gone. Anyone know if this is still happening?

I've been following it here:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/c...e#/updates/all

Latest update is they had to redo the injection molded bodies because of the click in feel. That was 2 weeks ago. Maybe they're getting close to release but they've been close to release now since August so who knows when or even if they will release to their backers let alone have something to sell on their store.

Yay, 1,000 posts.
