8mm Crank Bolt Slipping

I am having one hell of a time keeping my Sugino 8mm square tapper bolt tightened down - I have torqued it to the point of galling threads and even used thread locker and still after a few rides there is clicking at my crank and low and behold its coming loose... What am I missing?

There is not much to take a picture of - My crank arm is not loose - My spindle is good - I suspect its the bolt itself and wonder if anyone else is having the same issues with this type bolt...

The crank has been rounded. Time for a new one.

As stated the crank has most likely had it. Try one more thing first..... Remove the crank arm and put a good amount or grease on the spindle taper and reinstall. See if this works as a lot of times it will. If not, a new crank is in need of replacement.

One more thing...... After tightining the crank and ridding for a bit, you can put a socket on the bolt and it will tighten down more, but do not continue to do this as you will ruin the crank for sure. Apply the grease, torque correctly then ride, and if there is no noise your good. Don't think you have a problem just cause you can tighten down the crank bolt more after ridding cause that is normal.

With minor exceptions, you should NOT grease a spindle. Dry fit only.
