I tested this on my wife, who is not a bike nut. She guessed this bike was 30 years old. I’d say you did well. Nice work!

Great call on the stem! We actually had one. It made a huge impact. Unfortunately now I need to dig three more of these puppies up by Tuesday. Fingers crossed I can find them in stock at an LA LBS!

Awesome, Thanks! They approved the build. This is not a "bike film" as it turns out, it's just the main mode of transportation for the protagonist.

Yeah, The Head Tube is the angle that's hard to hide. Plus I know how y'all feel about non-drive side pictures. It's a mix of generations of 105, selected for availability in quantity. Thankfully.

Too bad it wasn't a TV show; at least it could be dismissed.

If it makes you feel any better though, The Americans did a crap job of keeping automobiles period correct: https://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?resu...y=2&id=2149175

Well done! I’m generally not a fan of a sloping TT (like most of us here) but that’s a good looking bike. I’d ride it.

I would buy that! As they say, close enough for movie (or government) work.

OP: End result not bad. Fortunately the front wheel is not radially laced. I think the frame tube diameter is less of a giveaway than the top tube slope, followed by the streamlined fork. But not bad. Only slightly worse than Dave Stoller riding on the small 'ring when drafting the truck.

Seems like every editor makes that same mistake. Quicksilver has a "shift-up-the-freewheel" shot to suggest speed too. Can't remember if American Flyers made a similar mistake, but I'm sure they did...

We're doing a drivetrain swap with earlier gen 105 stuff to change to silver groupo. I know, but it's our best option for multiple quantities of parts in this time frame. We are swapping over to Dia-Compe Non Aero Levers, but having the threadless stem is killing me visually. I'm currently thinking black to minimize visibility... Anyone have any recommendations for things in my control? Seriously, I know frame and fork are impossible to be made to mimic a traditional bike. The frames will be painted by the studio.

How about swapping the fork so you can swap the stem too? Barring that, silver plastic tape to disguise it??

You should pull off some of the cogs. Hyperglide is enough of an anachronism, but 9/10/11 cogs on the back? If '70s, try 5, widely spaced unless the person riding it is supposed to be a racer. The cogs should fit fine next to each other and even shift well if they are good cogs like hyperglide or sram and not a cheap copy. You can use the spacer discs behind the cluster. Of course a cassette hub is also a dead giveaway, but that's harder to notice.

Nooooobody is going to notice this before they notice the fork, headtube, or angled top tube.

You could put 11 cogs in the back of the Breaking Away replica Masi, shoot a duplicate closeup from one of the "chase the Ciznano" truck scenes, sneak it into the original movie with the right grading and film grain...and most people still wouldn't notice.

No need to mess with the drivetrain if the rider is wearing 70's bell bottoms

Gotta strap those bell bottoms to stop them from snagging on the crank cotters, much less the chain

Reminds me of a mail order guitar place, their catalog that I saw in a library in the early '80s. One page was a very fine-line, crosshatched sketch of one of the store personnel playing a guitar, and the caption said, "This picture might look a little strange because I normally don't use a thin pick."

Is it going to be a bicycle movie, or just movie with bike scene? Pretty cool opp tho, congrats!

Down the Road... I've got some nice boxes as a parting gift. Like a Tiffany's box for a C&V bike girl right? She'll be thoroughly impressed when she finds she was actually gifted Claris Take-Offs...
