Great thread. Just discovered it for the first time, and read through the whole thing. I'm struck by the large number of examples from shops all around the Bay Area. On one of the early pages, I saw a sticker from a defunct local shop called Lindy's (Union Ave, San Jose) that I remember from the 1960's/70's. I also saw a sticker from a shop in Salt Lake City called Hyland, which is also the name of a long-existing local shop here in SJ. Can't help but wonder if there's a connection there.
I recently bought a vintage Mercier road bike here locally, and it's been locally owned since it was imported by Beacon Supply in Oakland circa 1970.
Paul's Cycles is no longer at this location, but it was there for many years. The street name is mis-spelled on the sticker.
50 years later, another Mercier

This sticker is on my latest purchase, a 1986 Schwinn Voyageur. The shop is still in business and over 100 years old! https://www.wheatonscycle.com/articl...tons-pg161.htm

The ghost of a sticker on the Schwinn Superior. I can make out "Baton Rogue" and a partial phone number.
Wonder if anyone with local knowledge knew/knows the shop? Bike has seen the country. Spent time in San Francisco, and now lives in Chicago.

this was such a great thread !
does anybody know if there's a service that will do small runs of stickers if you send 'em a JPG ?
it would be great to get couple of the good stickers re-popped.

Bikes: Wow, where to start? A collection of 1980's and early 90's road, touring, and MTBs from the likes of Trek, Schwinn, Cannondale, Fuji, Miyata, Univega, Panasonic, and GT. It has gotten rather out of control.

From oldest to newest:
Sunshine Bikes here in Fairfax on a 1983 Miyata Ridge Runner. Sadly, I'm not the original owner on any of these bikes.
City Cycle in SF on a 1997 Serotta Atlanta
Tip Top Shop in Oakland on a 2015 Salsa Colossal.

Transfer worn by Schwinn Superior of 1962.
Wonder if cycle may have been originally purchased by a student at the California Polytechnic Institute there in Pomona.

Ralph's now gone. Here is how location appears today -

I've been buying from them for approximately 8 years. They produce a quality product and are very responsive to their customers.
I don't know about their policies or willingness to do "one-off" projects, but I would start with them. Good people.

Anyone know what/where this is? Have not read through all replies, maybe half, and I have not seen this one. They still have a website and seem to only sell motorcycles. On my 73 Schwinn.

A new old bike as of yesterday, an '84 Trek 500 that looks to have come from a Schwinn dealership. Wouldn't that be unusual for 2 such major American brands to be sold in the same shop? I guess it's possible it was sold used at Skyline Schwinn in Charlottesville.

The shop sticker that was originally on mrs non-fixies "Altra"-branded Méral.
From what I have been able to find online, Jac.'s son Pax Ligtvoet was one of the founders of the Altra brand, basically a procurement cooperation for member bike shops.

I used to call on this shop back in my repping days. Can't recall if they sold both brands but it certainly is possible and other Schwinn dealers were also Trek dealers. Another possibility is that stores selling used and/or consignment bikes would put their shop stickers on.

This one was on a Marin Palisades Trail that I found at the curb yesterday. I used to call on this shop back in my repping days. Nice folks. I probably sold them this bike and later sold them the Giant bar ends that are on it.

This one was at the co-op on a Fontan, a French bike from the boom. Sticker is from (probably) the original location of Northern Virginia Cycles, which later became Nova Cycle with about eight locations all over NoVa and which then went bust before this century. A sticker from a bygone era makes me sad, but I'm also encouraged by the ones for shops still in business after decades.
