Finally got the '88 Bridgestone RB-2 back into riding shape. It's now equipped with a Suntour Edge 4050 drivetrain and brake calipers (compliments of cs1 via a trade). Not an original group, but some late 80s Bridgestones were equipped with Edge components. Looks similar to original Exage Sport group (sexy stuff). Fast, light, smooth but stiff ride, and responsive handling.

Junk,
I use the complete "Edge" group that came on my 1989-90 Ishiwata frame.Very smooth shifting and never a problem,no adjustments in 2 years,(in contrast to what the 21 year old mental midget expert stated at the $3000+ yuppie carbon bike shop). Some people are totally ignorant of the Suntour line I see you choose red which another BF poster stated,"red bikes are faster."

Unfortunately, I won't get a long term test of the drivetrain, as the bike is up for sale.

Love the Bridgestone! I have some mid-80s Suntour on one of my bikes and it all performs wonderfully. The hub bearings were so nice that when I wanted new wheels I got my LBS to use the old hubs and add new, better rims.

Some new photos of the ol' '61 Paramount. Made her my rider in place of the '86 Grand Prix for the last two weeks of December. Guess I have been in a '60s English club bike mood.
More photos from this photo set at my Paramount post here at C&V:

Take care,

Motobecane 197? (I need to get some better pics.). It has a 1977 city sticker on it so it must be of that time frame.
Works well as a commuter bike other than the shifter location (on handle bar shaft). Someone suggested fitting it with bar cons. Would they make shifting safer and less stressful on my arm? I'm getting some tendenites in my elbow from shifting.

Go with good old Suntour racheting barcons, you won't regred it. Easy as pie to shift, and you won't have any pain to boot.

This is my 1987 Trek 400T Elance. It has been mostly upgraded from the original components.
Ultegra/Mavic Open Pro wheels, 13-34 cassette, Sugino XD 600 crankset on UN53 bottom bracket, Nitto stem, Brooks B-17, LX front and rear derailleurs, Shimano bar end shifters, Cane Creek brake levers, SKS fenders. I have a few Carradice saddle bags...always the right size on hand for the demands of the day.

A few pics of my current rides that are finally worthy of posting, assuming of course I inserted the links correctly. Next up the 1969 Schwinn Super Sport that has been laying in state on my repair stand since October. To many bikes to little time.
Enjoy

This is the 1980 Trek 738 that I just finished. I know some of you are less than impressed by Treks but I've never had a problem with the old ones so let's keep the hoots to a minimum . I figure that when you have a chance of actually figuring out the name of the guy who built your frame you're in pretty good shape . I had a nice Trek many years ago which was stolen and this frame presented a target of opportunity. Besides, I didn't have an all-Campy bike and how would anybody take me seriously in such a state as that? This is also the one with the homemade leather bar wrap from the thread about Velo-Orange's elk. Unfortunately, a lot of the three feet of snow we've gotten in the past three weeks is still around so I haven't ridden it yet.

My daily commuter is the first decent bike I bought, a 1985 Raleigh Wyoming. Still largely original except for seat, hoods, bar tape, tires, brake pads, and just recently a new fornt wheel. Still smooth and quiet.
I'm trying to talk my brother out of his 1978 or 79 Varsity that's a permanent fixture on his garage ceiling.
