Schwinn World Sport..worth picking up?
I just spotted a 1991 (I believe, going by the headbadge #) Schwinn World Sport at Goodwill for $30. It has 6 speed w/Suntour Blaze RD, and indexed stem mounted shifters, alloy 27 x 1 1/4 wheels, Champion bars, alloy seat post and is lugged.. Is this worth picking up or should I let it go. What's the reputation of the Suntour Blaze.??

If the alloy wheels are in good shape, they are worth more than $30.
The bike is a great buy in my book!

The cheapest Suntour, (Pre bankruptcy in the mid 90's) Is allmost universally reliable. You will do ok for $30, go get it!

Death fork? Naaaah!!
The World Sport was sourced from Giant. I had a World (one notch down the foodchain) pass through my hands a couple of years back. Seemed like a nice bike.

If it fits, buy it.
An 85 World Sport was my h.s. graduation present and I rode it all through college and law school, did a few triathlons on it, and commuted on it. Solid bike and great fun.

Cool, If it's there when I go back by I'll pick it up...I just need to come up with an answer to the age old question.."Why did you need another bike?"..

Because it was there!
It may not work, but it is honest.

I'm in the process of cleaning up a World Sport for my girlfriend. They're solid bikes, and $30 is a good deal. I paid about $45 for this one...

If it has Araya alloy rims I think it's a very good deal for $30. I've had a World and a couple of World Sports, alas, none in my size, but their frames have gone on to projects for friends, and their components have been scattered through my little fleet. The last one gave up a beautiful pair of Araya rims I am lacing to some Normandy hubs.

It looks exactly like the one in this thread..I must have misread the headbadge. The 89 looks more like it..

If it is still there tomorrow I will get it and it may turn into a parts donor..I need a set of alloys to put on my LeTour so I can save the steels that are on it now. And I also wanted to change it over to indexed so its easier for my son to ride...I hope I don't end up kicking myself for being indecisive..

BTW - I've owned two World Sports, both were nice but were a bit of a workout @ about 28 lbs. I bought one for $5 and one for $10

I hope you get it. I fixed up an '85 for my son in law. Later, he got a nice carbon Raliegh, and I though I would get the World Sport back. No way! He loves that bike. Really nice ride.

Two martinis cost 30 bucks in New York City. I'd rather have a bike than two martinis.

I just bought a 1987 WS for my wife from craigslist I paid $75 for it but it has alloy rims, crome molly frame, quick release front and rear, a quick relise seat post and SIS shifters with shimano light action front and rear derailers and allow cranks. The thing is light and I cut the handle bars and turned them upside down for the bull horn effect which I prefer. I cleaned her up and greased all the bearings and put new cables, tires and brake shoes on her. Its a pretty sweet bike IMHO.
