I hope they make some money off this deal, they have an amazing history as a company. They seem to be adapting to the current times quite well with this move.

They need to do what Peloton did a while ago. make an ad where some guy buys an exercise bike for his wife and the whole world erupts into an uproar. and we end up with a 20 page thread on bikeforums where people argue about how sexist it is.

If they really wanna stir up some controversy, have the guy buy one for a female co-worker, instead of his wife.

eh, it's cool and all, but schwinn's have had ant+ on their spin bikes with "power" readings. I use power in quotes because my experience having used them a couple of years ago is that the numbers were not accurate based on my own usual power output. This needs the DC Rainmaker treatment and have some pedals attached to compare readings.

The spec sheet says it's 106 pounds assembled...that's only twice what an old-school Varsity weighs.

It's not a smart trainer, you'll need to adjust your resistance manually, and if you want power, it appears you'd need to install power meter pedals (Bluetootch). It seemingly also doesn't seem to provide a real cadence value, so you might also likewise need to install some sort of cadence sensor on the crankarm.

I gave my wife a spin bike two months ago as an anniversary gift. Despite the fact that it is what she asked for, I still ended up in therapy to deal with my sexist ways. I hope to be better in a few years.

I couldn't find details on how it calculates power and wpyld be interested to see what process is used as well as how it matches up to other devices.

It's got a sensor on the flywheel hub, probably measuring flywheel rpm. Flywheel mass is X: to change flywheel speed from s1 to s2, requires force F, calculated over T time, is power.
Cadence? It's a single-speed. Calculating pedal cadence off flywheel rpm doesn't take much heavy lifting, either.
It's close enough to play along on Zwift without having to hook a bunch of other sensors up.
People who have power meters on their road bikes (you guys apparently) aren't the target market for this thing.

Its interesting to me- the development of varying power meters and power reporting as well as accuracy.
