Gel seat covers are really bad things to use because they squeeze the gel to other areas which then causes soreness on other parts of your "areas" that where not meant to be holding your weight. You'll feel even worse off than without the seat cover. Best to get a good seat with a nice solid feel and some give but not too soft. But if you want a comfy ride then get one of those sprung seats and you'll be rolling.

My problem is, the seat on my OCC Schwinn Chopper is a banana seat and there are no other seats that will fit on the metal post the seat is attached to.

We have two Bontrager gel seats; not covers which can bunch up. We can survive up to 30 miles...

Look at sprung Brooks saddles.
They really are the most comfortable saddles out there.

Cloud 9 seats. Feel ok at first, but don't really do much after 20 minutes.

Here is my take on bike seats. I finally figured out how they work and which ones not to get. The ones that make men impotent are the ones where you squeeze the middle part where your bum goes and it's very soft. The reason why those make you impotent is because when you sit down your scrotum or whatever gets a lot of pressure put on it because instead of your butt hitting the seat first and taking the bulk of the weight, your scrotum is now taking the weight and it pinches the nerves and causes your privates to go numb temporarily and can eventually make you impotent. I know this because I have one of those seats. First thing to do is make sure the middle part of the seat is sturdy and almost hard but not too hard but hard enough to support you. If you push in with your fingers and you can almost down to the bottom of the insides then it's not a good seat. My Selle Royale seat is very good and does not make my privates numb. Might want to check out the Selle Royal ones. I love it. This is the one I have is like this ....I don't think they make mine anymore but it's like this one https://www.selleroyal.com/Saddle_Detail.aspx?c=8172DST oops...that's a female seat but still it looks like that

If your rear is sore, you aren't using your legs enough. Later in the season, legs are in better shape and butts hurt less.

I really like Brooks B17's I have them on all my bikes. I have a B17 Flyer on my ebike because of the speed and roughness of the roads I ride on.

I really think Sunny needs to go with a sprung Brooks since he is running solid tires.
That little bit of suspension will go a long way for him I think.

I have been riding for a couple years now on an inexpensive Bell saddle my wife picked up for me for Father's Day from Wally World.
https://www.amazon.com/Bell-1006440-M.../dp/B001E1G7Z6

I am surprised to say that it is very comfortable! Go figure. The saddle is firm and not squishy. Squishy would be bad. I commute on this saddle about 11 miles each way to and from work. I have taken it on longer un-power rides and had no issues in the delicate areas. They're pretty cheap and the material has held up very well. I would suggest they are worth checking out. I intend to buy another one for my new E-bike as the stock saddle is a killer on longer rides.

That or a shock mount seat post if he has clearance above the frame.

Some of us with bad knees are quite limited to how much leg we use.

Padded cycling underpants are good and mean that you can wear ordinary shorts. Some specially shaped gel seat covers have a deep scallop in the centre which women find satisfactory. Eventually one seems to toughen up ones neither regions.
