Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yup. Got to check it our a few weeks back. Solid group and aimed at the Ultegra price-point. We'll see how it all pans out.

It'll probably work as well as the rest of the dreck they produce.

Buying 1st generation, is usually a bad idea with SRAM.

Except, is it really? Etap has been around for a while now, and how much has changed here?

Sram force Etap on a budget

Sram force Etap on a budget
Hello everyone.

I am in the process to build a custom 1X11 titanium bike.
I wanted to put some regular sram force but now I am thinking about upgrading to sram force Etap to get 12 speed, easier assembling, being able to future proof in case I need a 2x

To cut the costs, I would like to know a few questions.
Could you help me ?

Can you buy just the right shifter, rear derailleur, cassette and chain ?
Do you need any other part from this Groupset to work ?
I would buy separately a the non axs sram force left lever and front and rear brake.
Can you set only the right shifter to change speed up and down with the app or is there any other method?

Two friends had major issues at Ironman Wisconsin because of failed eTap shifts.

Ui2 is awesome.

I wouldn't consider anything electronic but Di2 myself, Shimano nailed it.

Hey, do folks call the Ultegra version Ui2 for convenience even though they know the D doesn't stand for Dura-Ace, or do they do it out of ignorance that Di2 stands for digital integrated intelligence?

I believe you need both shifters for etap. Each one shifts the RD in a different direction.

Also, for AXS, you need to make sure you have a wheel that can accept the AXS cassettes.

More-informative shorthand. Di2 can communicate more total systems than Ui2, so it’s less precise. Nicknames occur all over the place for similar purposes; after coffee I may even remember some.

And besides, “Digital integrated intelligence” shortened to Di2 is terrible. It says nothing about what it is or does, and sounds like it should be a buzzword for an infernal “helpful” chat client, so I feel no remorse changing it to something even vaguely useful.

Nah fair enough; Di2 is a stupid name, no argument there.

It makes me cringe when I see or hear Ui2,

Di2 isn't great, but it's not as bad as SRAM Red Black

Lol, yeah. Hard to believe that one made it from some dickhead's fevered mind, all the way to actual nomenclature.

I could do without "black edition" as the name for CPUs, cars, and groupsets. And probably other things. Such a meaningless term.
