Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Master Thread

I thought I'd just combine all the stupid (pointless), and painfully redundant threads, to get them out of the way in one fell swoop. Now we can move on...

Inspired by this thread: https://www.bikeforums.net/singlespee...ixed-gear.html

1. What is the best SSFG for <$300
2. Where can I get a Kilo TT?
3. Do you ride with or without brakes?
4. How do you skid?
5. Do you ride with a helmet?
6. What's the best gear ratio for me? For riding up the big hill on my commute?
7. What's the best way to ride a fixed gear down a hill?
8. Why is it called a fixie?
9. Leader 725 vs. Mash Histogram, which is better?
10. Messenger bag vs. backpack, which is better?
11. Clipped vs. Clipless, which is better?
12. I'm 5'10", what's the best frame size for me?

Thanks. Let me know if I missed anything...

You certainly need something about foot retention in there.

Nah. Where's the fun in that? I mean, this is a very opinionated bunch so I'm sure we all have the right answers.

If the noobie threads bother you guys so much then make an effort to start discussions. Who an I kidding though, we are a bunch of trolling waiting for the next Evilcrymore or Lessonlearned.

Thanks. Let me know if I missed anything...

I bought my sw8 #KiloTT (1) from BikesDirect (2). I ride with brakes (3) on alternating days of the week. I skid (4) with style, usually on my helmet (5). I like to mash uphill in my 60/13 gear (6), then "Ted Shred" downhill (7) with my right foot on the rear wheel and my left propped up on the handle bars. "Fixed Gear Drivetrain Bicycle" is just such a mouthful, and makes you sound like a Fred when you say it, so I just say "fixie" (8) when referring to the sw8 Mash Histo (9) after I sold off my janky old Leader 725. Of course, I gotta carry my junk with me, so I wear backpack on even days, and messenger bag on odd days (10). Of course, I throw down so many watts I have to ride with clipless pedals that also have toe cages and straps (11).

If you disagree with how I ride, you are wrong.
