Chased a hot air balloon, ended up right back at home. It landed at a neighbors house

Not so much "where" as "in what conditions"? For the past several days, a high pressure region has been parked over the Ohio Valley, providing unusual northeasterly winds over Lake Michigan. The weather app on my phone has had an active lakeshore flood advisory this entire time, despite the fact that the weather has been completely dry. For me, living in Evanston, my commute into the Loop has been "a breeze". Needless to say, the Evanston Windsurfing club has been in Seventh Heaven. Riding home has been challenging, but the wind and lower temperature has kept the riff raff off the Lakefront Trail , so it's been fun even in the afternoon.
This weather pattern looks like it will persist for a few more days. I suspect Hurricane Joaquin will finally put it to an end next week.

Today was chilly, damp and 49degF when I left the house this morning. Wore fleece pants, a balaclava, and full-fingered gloves for the first time this fall. For the return it was raining lightly but steadily. My rain jacket was completely skunked-striped. Traffic was light. Great fun. The Raleigh loved riding in such fine British weather. Now I have a task of an hour or two to clean it up.

@Lascauxcaveman stopped by today for a quick ride on his way to the weekend wedding for his nephew. We took the mountain bikes out for my first ride in the hills since my May.
Tim before the first long uphill
The "closed to vehicles" portion of the ride with much better road conditions than the last time I was on it.

Met up with gugie and his friend Phil this afternoon on their 8 day tour of Washington. Rode with them out of town and south in the Yakima River Canyon before I had to turn back and finish work for the day. Always fun to met another BF C&V member.
And here's back atcha:

Rode the RB-1 across town to one of the community colleges for a talk. Was beautiful outside, despite the recent heavy rains and hurricanes and stuff.

Starting to get some really nice autumnal colours around Vancouver. Rode out with some friends to Thomas Haas for some coffee and the best almond croissant around town.

Hmm. For the past several days a rain-event has been parked over the northeast. Wednesday had localized flooding and roads blocked so I did not commute by bike. If I had it would have taken me less time than it took to drive, but I might have gotten to work drowned and then I wouldn't have been much use to my employer. Yesterday was a reasonable bike commute but cool and overcast.

winter might come a shade early, and I've planned my first daytime ride, for tomorrow, since April.

100k with Drillium Dude today. Kind of a cluster with a brain cramp on my part and forgetting the shoes/cleats and having to go back home at the start (finally caught up to DD about 23 miles into the ride) and 50 yo bodies complaining. But, we made it and had a good time. DD went home with his new ride and will be preoccupied with that for awhile.
Ended up being my 3rd ride this week with a forum member

^ Yes, it definitely was a bit of a slog, but we survived
Headwinds (both directions!), recurring sleepy left leg from the chip-seal and uncooperative neck/shoulders ensured I had to dig kinda deep again, but wtf. What doesn't kill you makes you hurt - and, as we all know, pain means you're still alive!
My ride in the trunk - I brought the Klein MTB back on my Saris Bones rack:
The Dan Henry marker at the split - go left for the full century, continue straight for the half:
Scott's Vitus and my Davidson overlooking the Yakima River:
Yakima River:
Thanks, Scott, for the room, board and company!

Opening Day of the Sunday morning riding season! I couldn't find the camera. Again. 53 uneventful kilometers, passing through 6 pueblos and one town with traffic lights. Those lights caused horrible gridlock in a tiny, tiny town center. Progress, I guess.
File photo. The lights have come off, as has the bell. It carried panniers today instead of the seat bag.

Put the October metric in the books with a 65 miler. Right shoulder was not cooperating, but kept up a good pace the whole way. Even found a new to me road relatively close to home.
We'll see if mother nature allows me to get 12 metrics in this year.

I rode out to Salmon Days in Issaquah this morning, with northbend. It was a great fall day here, with a little bit of everything mixed in
(road, dirt, beer, bbq, & strudel). Matt showed me some great routes through the I-90 corridor.
Little bit soupy early on
Matt wanted to stop here and play Jenga
Gravel Grinder rigs..

Tough to keep up with this group. A little sumpin extra, vintage donuts!
Then we have
That calls out for a FIFY
Of course the strudel might have to compete with the donuts.
We managed 44.1 miles on the tandem today. It was a bit chilly. In fact more than just a bit. The sun kept coming out, going in, coming out, going in. Autumn is here.
Some location shots on the Minuteman Bikeway
A favorite lunch spot, Fern's General Store, Carlisle
Finally, a faux-artsy shot at Depot Park, Bedford, the western terminus of the Minuteman.

F2G2 - Oct. 4, 2015 in the Berkshires.
52.5 mi with 5488 ft according to the Garmin. Max grade was 26.7%...I sometimes wonder how accurate those readings (i.e. no way was the max grade 26.7...).
It was slow going for a few reasons, chief among them: I need to climb more... The weather was pretty chilly, temps hovered around mid-forties to low fifties with most of the ride being spent in the shade.
Delicious recovery beer by Wandering Star Brewing Company out of Pittsfield, Ma. Tasty stuff.
The anchor:
Bike highlights were an Indy Fab with custom 'Fall Foliage' paint, and an Eisentraut.

Thank you. That is a 1982 Peugeot with an interesting history. It's been repainted of course, and ridden probably 6000 miles since I built it up.
S_N, very nice. About those GPS readings, the profile looks typical for this area but the grade values are probably suspect. GPS is not especially precise re elevation, and it doesn't take much to make grades look strange on closely-spaced points. But those pics sure look inviting.

Ride With GPS puts max grade at 13.6% - much more realistic, and interestingly about half of what the Garmin data reads when uploaded into RWGPS. The bike computer seems to update the grade readings at a fairly coarse interval on the screen readout at least, I wonder if that is part of its' 'confusion'.
