28 mile shakedown on the newly finished Peugeot PFN10. Loop from South Philly through the western suburbs. Was very windy on the way out. I’ve been riding my touring bike all winter so this felt FAST.

Ran into someone else wearing Avocet M30s so we stopped and chatted for a second.

I agree with Matt.

To that end, I got in not quite 16 miles on my Speedster this morning. Even took a picture crossing the new bridge over the North Channel Trail. For orientation, the right bank {east} is Chicago, the left bank is Lincolnwood



As for settlng one's mind, I couldn't agree more. Perhaps that's a good segue to show off this Christmas gift. Ellen is always complaining that I'm constantly glued to my phone. Not while I'm on the bike.

^^^^^ Absolutely agree, my post above was after watching the mess in DC unfold after tuning in to watch the certification only to see it devolve into an unimaginable s**tshow.

That was enough to get me out in the pouring rain for another test ride with the new jacket.

Got back and eventually saw the vote certified for the new President of the United States.

I’d decided I didn’t really want to take any pics on my ride yesterday but couldn’t resist when I passed this old ruin on a newly explored road. Unfortunately I couldn’t get closer due to gates and a lot of no trespassing signs. Apparently it’s the grounds of a hunt club, so didn’t want to wander around uninvited.

20 miles today on my track bike. 25°F and overcast, so I'm glad that I didn't end up being out any longer than that.

I have a 650b wheel on the front since there's no clearance for a brake caliper with 700c and I'm not comfortable riding without a brake.

Just waiting on some hubs and spokes to arrive and this will be running 650b x 38 Pari-Motos front and rear

Yesterday I rode 35 miles with a starting temp of 26F and a finishing temp of 33F. Today I rode 40 miles with a starting temp of 28F and an ending temp of 39F. I was reminded that riding in the cold is quite do-able even if I’m reluctant to get out there at first.

My toes typically limit me to an hour and a half, maybe two hours if it's sunny at 25°-30°F. It's always pretty brisk at first but every time I'm surprised at how much I warm up!

Not the best shot, but the new Miyata’s in there somewhere. It’s a great climber, and I took the descents nice and slow. 11.4 miles and 1,500 feet of elevation.

A slow and careful ride yesterday - it was -2 when I left the house with a few patches of ice about. The morning warmed up as the sun came out though, and most of the main roads had been gritted, and the ice in the lanes thawed quickly.

There's still no clarification from HM Government about what the latest lockdown means in terms of exercise - much discussion amongst UK cyclists about whether Tiers have been abolished, what local means, how far can we go, etc. I took what I considered a sensible approach and took a quiet route which would keep me away from people, stayed in the North Somerset district, stopped only in isolated places to take photos or eat and drink, and carried a good set of spares and tools on the bike.

My route went from home out over Hutton Hill, through Puxton, and into Wrington, then over the top of Wrington Hill (20% gradient in places, fun on a fully loaded 5-speed AO8!) before descending through Goblin Coombe into Cleeve. From there it was a fairly flt ride around Brockley, before climbing Brockley Coombe, turning off at the top to take the lane around the perimeter of Bristol Airport.

Normally the airport is pretty busy - nothing like LHR, but aircraft landing or taking off every five minutes. With the lockdown in effect I didn't see a single aircraft moving, and stopping briefly at the viewpoint could see at least 15 airliners parked up around the terminal. It was a bit of an eerie really to be alone up there with no sign of life at all over the airport.

From the airport my route home was downhill most of the way, through Redhill, back into Wrington, and into Congresbury, then back to Puxton before turning home through Locking village. 45 miles, and a nice day out. Two pairs of socks plus overshoes kept my feet warm, and I was glad to have my new jacket on. This was a hand me down from my wife's cousin incidentally; he's quite a big lad and ordered an XXL jacket from one of the chinese sites. It's a perfect fit for me - I usually wear a Large - but apparently wouldn't even zip up on him!
