Trek 620 saved from the dump

I picked this up today as I was driving to the dump/recycling center on the island. Although it’s not my size, I think it will be a good fit for my sons girlfriend. Looks like their 48-49 cm frame with a slightly sloping top tube. Some changes from the stock setup ( wheels, derailleurs, brifters), but it runs through the gears and the brakes work. Stem was free, but the seatpost isn’t going to budge without some help. Needs one new tube, but aside from that it should make a good commuter for her.

At least the seatpost isn't buried.

Right! I’m hoping I can just add a bit of leverage to try to loosen it up. It looks like this bike might have spent some time in a shed or under a tarp during the winter. A bit of rust on the frame where paint has been scraped or is missing, but nothing too serious.

That original rear rack is a rare thing indeed. That is quite the trash find.

^^^^^^ +1, I faintly recall reading that Jim Blackburn co-ordinated the sizes/spacing of his racks to precisely fit the braze-ons of the Treks.

Who would send such a creature to the skip?

Hard to say. Perhaps the stuck seatpost? It seems in good shape otherwise and has a new chain so someone had put some energy into it recently…

this may be hard to take, are you sitting down?

to most people a bike is….is…..well just a bike. I know I don’t understand those people either. LOL

And the rung lower than "it's just a bike" is "it's just an old bike."
