It's just no fun anymore

Sorry, but the 50+ Forum just ain't the same anymore. I had the illusion, apparently, that this Forum was different. But if we're going to have to be all serious and on topic all the time, and worry about offending each other all the time, then it's just another forum. Y'all have a good time; I'll be around from time to time and certainly will check back in on advice on which bike to buy ( ) but the "community" I knew is fast moving to the dust bin of history. Damn shame. It was fun while it lasted.

Those of you who helped me along in my learning about cycling -- thanks! Also thank to so many of you who made me laugh or made me think. I have fond memories of so many posters.

Maybe I'll see you on the road!

Don't leave. With counseling and a new road bike (gotta stay on topic) I know we can make it work. Besides, it isn't over til we say it is. Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?

I'm trying hard not to agree with you, DG. But I'm having the same feeling. I still can't understand how or why it happened, but something that was here is missing now.

It has been a long, long winter, and we're just entering Feb. I know I'm feeling a bit on edge and cranky these days, and didn't I see a full moon or close to one last night? I don't know about the rest of you, but could use more miles on the road and less time in front of the computer.

I've been struggling with the "changes" a little myself so don't feel alone. What we have to keep in mind is that because we've had such a good run, our little 50+ community is attracting more and more people with similar interests. It's only natural that as we grow in numbers there becomes a few more challenges we have to deal with just because of the increased numbers and added diversity of the group.

That still doesn't change who we are and it doesn't mean we can't be ourselves. We just have to make sure we continue to be respectful of the population at large. I think I can still operate, communicate, enjoy myself and learn from others in that environment.

Hopefully you'll continue to be a regular visitor here as well as you've contributed greatly to the group the past couple years. If not, I DO hope to see you out on the road!!

Hell, I'm not going away, but I've definitely seen and learned things in the last couple of days that I would rather not have known. Maybe the feeling will pass. I sure hope so.

DG,

Maybe some politically correct and gender neutral haiku will bring back the zest?

Thank you.

And I do reserve the right to return, but maybe I just need to take a break. Just like the advice someone gave me on cycling -- when it stops being fun, STOP!

Yah, well, march your sorry butt back to the keyboard and start posting. Neither rain, nor snow, nor moronic mods, nor thought police, nor any power foreign or domestic can keep you from your appointed rounds. We need your good cheer, your laughter, your zest for life and your eternal search for the perfect bike. So don't be stupid and selfish. Sulking will only make your knee hurt more. Stick around. If people don't want to read your threads, they don't have to. If Barney Fife sends you down to Foo, so what. We'll go down to Foo.

Just give it a couple of days. There are still fun topics to pursue. Keep hammerin' away.

Don't let them win too easily.

If you want a Diego avatar, just let me know. I have a few different ones.

Actually RB, none of us knows what we're talking about. Usually that's all part of the fun. Today not so much, since some of us feel like we've had a big smackdown laid upon our heads. Besides, DigitalGee is talkin' crazy, more even than usual.

I'm probably not going anywhere, but as you guys said...it's just not the same. If someone started a new forum/message board somewhere far away from here, perhaps we could all migrate to where speech is once again free. It could be the "50+Foo" that was shot down.

I'm not the leader type or I'd be on it already.

I'll tell you what it is... I showed up. I have this effect on Web fora.
Seriously, it comes with growth. Since I guess I missed the fun to begin with, having just got here, I'll hang around a while longer.

Okay, I've been away a couple of days for various reasons, I've seen the Diegos banned, but that's about it. This is a 50+ forum, isn't it? To me that means that 50+ers have a right to post on this forum what they need to talk about.
I can understand why the Diegos were banned. But they gave me a good laugh. Sure I'd much rather be riding, but it's 5 degrees outside with a 20 mph wind. Give me some humor, cause I going absolutely crazy not riding! I used to visit Foo regularly, but BF is growing so much and I feel many of the posters in this forum are friends, that I usually just hang around here.

We've reached the same milestone and I enjoy reading everyone's thoughts. The big 5-0! If something is moved to Foo it just won't be the same.

DG, If this isn't enjoyable, then take a few days off and go ride. Think about all the things that you dislike about this forum while you ride. See if that helps.

Save the spirit of this forum!

Same old story. Good people turn away, leaving thing to the jerks. Hence jerks rule. Just like junior high school.

DG, you are one of our anti-jerks. Your fresh and honest and benign point of view is an antidote to some of the forces that posters above are complaining about. If the dark spreads, we should at least carry on and not run off because we hate unpleasantness. That's sad. Do what you must, take a break....but don't vow to never return. Good things, pure and simple, never stay untainted long.

So, see you sooner than later I hope.
