Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

Buffalo 105 Gravel Race

free event- just bring some nonperishable food to donate.
55mi and 105mi options.
ride some great roads and thru the buffalo preserve.

if anyone has been interested in an organized event but hasnt tried it, this is a great one to start with.
its as competitive as you want it to be, the field isnt large(about 30?), and the routes are nicely selected.

take a look.

Hmm, that weekend's free for me. But only eight hours for completion? I have yet to ride a century on gravel.

I do have completing a century on the 29er as a bucket list item...

Bump for posterity if/when the ride is googled by others looking for info.

this was last weekend.
It was a constant 25mph wind with gusts to 45mph. Temps started in the mid 40s and got to the high 40s.

my goal was to simply finish in less time than last year.
The first 35 miles went great, i rode strong, and was well ahead of pace. And then I averaged 7mph over the last 20mi. 7. Seriously. It was almost all straight into the wind.
I actually put my foot down while climbing a 15% hill into the wind because i started to lose balance.

there was a bit of bike hike on a level B road due to some muddy sections. A toe warmer fell off in it and I couldn't get it back on, so my feet were cold for many hours of riding!

I finished 7th of 24 in the 55mi division and finished 20th of 46 overall(since the 105mi riders did the 55mi route too).

the buffalo were out and many were near the road which was fun to see.
hopefully the wind stays away next year and I can improve on my time from last year.

Great pics and ride story. I'll have to get out there next year and do it.
