Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Does this chainring need to be replaced?

Hi everyone, recently I've been having trouble shifting to the larger chainring. I have the front derailleur adjusted right to the point where it sometimes falls to the right over the big ring and even then it still doesn't properly shift to the big chainring all the time. Is it possibly due to a worn chainring? Sorry had to upload the pictures in PDF as it wouldn't allow me to post images.

Many thanks in advance.

You can see in the picture that the FD cage is well above the chainring teeth-

it should be set 1-2mm above.

Unlikely that chainring wear is the issue.

That's the lowest I can mount the FD. It's an old FD-7700 (my 7800 brifters are only compatible with 7800 and older FDs) and I'm guessing they're not very compatible with compact cranksets which only came out 7900 onwards.

You could file the slot longer, & probably gain 2mm- that might help.
