FS: 1957 Hetchins Experto Crede frame (25", straight stays, primed)
Hello folks,
This frameset is Sold!
This is a 1957 Hetchins Experto Crede frameset that measures 25" from center-to-top and 22.5" across the top tube (center-to-center). A response from Flash at the Hetchins Registry provided me with the following details about the frame:
"H26775 is listed in the ledgers as a model Experto Crede, type 6 (this
refers to frame geometry), 25-inch, straight stays, first sold on 16
march 1957, price 15 pounds 12 shillings. It was built by Bob Stratfull,
and was the six thousand seven hundred seventy-fifth frame made since
they started counting in Aug 1935."
The frameset has been in primer for an unknown amount of time and first came to light on the internet when Hilary Stone advertised it several years ago in this condition. It passed to Brian at Golden Age Cycles who I purchased it from, bringing it to the United States last year. There are some spots of surface rust developing on the frame but everything appears to be in sound condition. I had gugie re-thread the fork steerer so the messy threads shown in the photos below have been fixed.

Hetchins lugs are always fabulous to look at.
Separate question - the attachment halfway down the DS fork leg - is that provision for a light? I have a fork with that and I assumed it was for a light but I wasn’t sure. (I’m kind of ignorant about English bikes from this era).

I'm super hesitant about getting rid of this one but for the moment it's on the chopping block. I may renege if it sits awhile and my resolve wavers!

Yes, originals are not cheap but H. Lloyd Cycles (the transfer maker) in the UK casts some that are almost exactly the same with the rivet holes placed at the appropriate distance. They come in polished brass and need to be enameled for about $50.

Over 6k hand made frames in 20 years, about 2 a day seems rather
to me, in a good way.
