Dura Ace 7402 Rear Derailleur Part Question. Calling DA Extraordinaires
i've got a 7402 RD missing the bolt marked in the circle by the arrow in the photo.
what is it called? Cable End Bolt? Cable Pinch Bolt?
also any lead where it might be found other than the 'bay would be appreciated.
(checked loosescrews.com already. they do not have it)
any alternative info such as metric size of the bolt* etc would be helpful too.
i could go HomeDepot and check, just thought to see some proper info first if there's any.
i am not too much keen on the 'original' part, as long as i can make it work.
* the bolt hole shape is not entirely circle, tho. it's like a fatter half-moon, with a straight-line cut.
thanks in advance for your insights/infos.

I assume that's the bolt that holds the cable to the RD body?
probably just a standard 6mm Hex bolt that all the Shimano RDs use

I would use a metric stainless button head cap screw, I would have to check one of mine, but I think it is 5 mm, not 6. I would use a washer too, of which I would look for either a stainless one (slightly smaller outside diameter to bore ratio than typical SAE washers, a lock washer or an AN washer. Home Depot will probably NOT have these, a well stocked hardware store might, they do around here. You might double check the allen key size too before you go home and find that you don't have the right size allen key.

I think they are the same pinch bolt used on many Shimano late 80's/early 90's RD, only inserted upside down in this photo (I have seen them both ways). I trip to a decent, older LBS, or a bicycle cooperative will probably yield something that works.

yup. i guessed that half-moon cut is just for holding an insert where the bolt can screw in.
let me see what i can do. looks like i can easily file some loose bits around.
(and i can definitely run over a LBS—not in Hoboken, they are horrible—in nyc to see if there're some.
no a co-op seems operating in this area, i might be wrong.)
thanks for the insights, folks!

Last time one of these stripped out on me, I replaced it with one from an otherwise destroyed tricolor RD that my LBS had in their junk drawer. Same bolt came on late 80's/early 90's 105 (1050 and 1055).
Much easier to use if you turn it around so the nut is external.

looks to be a common mod. the 'inverse bolt' that it came with seems to be universally despised because you can only access it through the parallelogram (that's a fun word to type...)

Yes, it is very similar to the bolt used on Shimano 1055-RD and Shimano 600 tri-color rear derailleur. However, I do offer a cautionary note. Several months ago I inadvertently swapped the cable pinch bolts on a 105 and 600/tri-color unit. I forget specifically what the issue was, but they were slightly different and not perfectly compatible.
In any event, you may be in luck. I snapped a 7400-RD last year and have been saving it for parts. I'll need to dig around for it. If I can find the broken 7400 unit and it still has it's pinch-bolt, I'll gladly send the spare cable pinch bolt your way.

I actually like the minimalist way it looks, so I have mine set up with the nut inside. You do need the right length bent allen wrench, though.
