I'm starting to miss having a modern road bike.
There's a Burley Wolf Creek in my size listed locally and I'm quite smitten. Even though it's red.

On the scalp front, I will say that my earmuff-style hearing protection does offer a bit of head protection, too - I've bumped ducting a few times with them on and no problems.
More importantly, I've become fond of not hearing my family calling out for me, so much so that I've taken to wearing my wireless earbuds while cooking.
It's a lot easier to get things done when you're not constantly being interrupted.

I need to get some newer pictures. It's noting too spectacular, and even this photo makes it look nicer than it is. I picked it up about a year ago. I ended up pulling the engine to solve some issues with leaks, etc. and that was a chore. It's a beater, but it's solid.

EDIT: OH yeah, and I got stuck with a 2.5 hour layover in Charlotte and I think someone here was just talking about the lack of food options. Well, there are a ton of options there, but yeah none of them were spectacular. If anyone has a recommendation, I'm sure I could use it. I always end up there if I have a connecting flight to NYC.

No and no. The stem clamp/spacer stack is first compressed downward with the steerer cap via a bolt to a star nut (for steel) or expansion plug sitting in the steerer tube. Then the stem clamp is tightened for the definitive fix. Nothing can get stuck except, I suppose, an expansion plug, but it's right there an inch away and clearly visible, so easy to dislodge and retrieve.

Yeah, there's a torque spec for those things. The one I have is 6-9 Nm, IIRC, but it also depends on the composition of the tube it's in. For CFRP, caution and friction paste are recommended.

The tightness is really based on preloading the bearings. It's pretty easy to do. YouTube if you need an explanation.

For the compression plug & stem bolts, specs should available on internet or written on the stem. Be careful not to over tighten the compression plug as well as it could expand your steerer tube to a point of cracking the CF. Same thing goes for the clamp bolts.

That would be too much money. It actually already has a late model block with a serpentine setup and centerbolt Vortec heads. It's about as fancy as it needs to be. It really needs some suspension tweaks and a carb tune, but it's otherwise a really solid frame and body (but dented) and mechanically sound. No A/C so it's strictly a winter/fair weather beater but it also means I have a truck so I can haul stuff easily if I need a huge mound of dirt or to move some big furniture.
The best part is that it's just fun to drive.

Historically, I have not been a fan of the El Camino/Ranchero. I passed on several opportunities back in the day. But nowadays, I'd use one as a bike hauler.

I suppose that a hat that's not tight to the noggin would give you a split second warning. I've been wearing a thin winter hat down there because it's ******g cold. It didn't give me sufficient warning, the bastard.

It hasn't really gotten better or worse, so I decided to visit my primary care physician. He says pinched nerve, he's referring me for some kind of physical therapy and has put me on a short term prescription for a type of steroid.
