Droop snoot saddle?
-----
came across this image of an Henri Gautier model 210 saddle being worn by a Trophee de France machine of ca. 1955
have not before seen a saddle with this appurtenance
note the metal affixed to the underside:
illustration of the complete bicycle for reference
does anyone understand the function?
paging Notre Professeur de Selle rhm

If one wore bloomers or a skirt could be useful.

Brooks made them as well but i can't make out the model number. It follows a nose plate. Perhaps the OP's broke off?

Another Brooks. Pretty old, imo.

Thanks so much for all of these replies.
You have certainly got it knocked!
Did a spot of research on the cycle and learned it to be made by Peugeot who created the Trophee de France event ca. 1911.
They retained rights to the name and produced cycles with it.

That's a pretty little velo de ville. You should post more detail photos of it. Looks like the frame design utilizes twin lateral tubes ending at the seat tube instead of continuing to the rear dropouts. Centerpulls with brazed pivot posts. An elegant little machine.

I've seen many saddles of this style including ones by Ideale. my thought was it's to keep a skirt from
not catching on anything when dismounting
