Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Odd question, might be stupid....underware?

I just started riding a couple of months ago and got a pair of C'Dale Classic biking shorts....and i have been wearing briefs (i fend them much more comfortable then boxers while i wear the bike shorts) but it seems like a lot of friction is created between the skin behind the testicles, the pubic hair and the briefs and i guess the shorts....has not gotten to be a problem yest but i have the MS 150 in a week and it might be a problem then....do people ride with just shorts on, special underwear that is low friction material, i saw a special deodorant type bar to reduce friction, would a little Vaseline help...

thanks

yea yea its an odd question and i will probably be remembered for the rest of my form life for this...but i would like the advice of veteran riders

Underwear Nazi is on his/her way, but I'll spare him the trouble.

You are supposed to wear them without underwear.

This thread has only been here for a couple of minutes. Your question has been asked and answered though. Perhaps you will be treated gently and the thread will end.

AEsco48, welcome to the forums. Your question is not at all a stupid one. We were all newbies to the sport of cycling at one time, and except for a few full-time freeballers, we all needed to be told:

No underwear under bike shorts for any reason ever. No excuses.

That's why I'm here.

You have found that underwear under lycra shorts are a one way ticket to Saddle Sore City. Lose the skivvies. If you still need a lube of some kind, there are many products available. Vaseline is not the best as it will clog pores. Some people swear by Bag Balm. Others like Body Glide. Chamois Butt'r is a bicycle specific product and very good. My presonal favorite is Assos Chamois Creme. It's a little spendy, but, hey, isn't your ass worth it?

Now that I've weighed in, the thread can end.

Just don't be that guy with the old, worn bike shorts showing his bare ass to anyone behind him. That is my biggest fear with the lycra shorts - you never know when this point is reached either unless someone tells you. I often wear underwear underneath, but they are bike specific, tight and even have a chamois.

if I can be serious for a minute, you should really trim yourself if you are going to wear lycra. your pubes sort of stick out of the material, not so much that you can see them but you can definitely feel it.

heh.

plus I your girl/guy will appreciate it.

If you want, you can get Microfiber underwear... that's what I wear when I ride, I hate riding with no undies, cycling shorts or not... lately I haven't been wearing my cycling shorts either, I got a couple pairs of UnderArmour tights that are great.

I was being serious as well, sorry I didn't see your post so it wasn't really a reference to it.
I'd show pictures as proof but.....

and yeah it's a good idea to wash them after every ride, I generally just get in the shower with them and then hang them up to dry, doesn't seem good for them to be in the wash and dryer all the time.

I knew a guy once who used to put all his dirty dishes in the tub.....take a shower once a week.....& do his dishes at the same time.....
