Swapped out the 160mm crankset I'd been trying out on one of the 7.6 FXs for a more appropriate 165mm one. Pedaling 160mm cranks felt as though I was shuffling my feet. The 165mm feels just right.

Not today - but I swapped the jokey wheels of my 105 R5800 with the Ultegra's ones.
https://www.merlincycles.com/shimano...els-74569.html
No problems shifting gears and a LOT smoother than the original ones.
I'm very pleased.

I picked up a lovely red Giant Nutra last week, and although it was in rideable condition, in the past few days, I have:

Replaced the bar and stem, brake levers and trigger shifters (in favor of GripShift), and replaced the seatpost and saddle

Replaced the front derailleur, crankset, bottom bracket, chain, and cogset, and mounted clipless pedals to replace the platforms

Mounted a rack and trunk, a bottle cage, and a pump

What did I do on my hybrid today? I took my not (yet) really "vintage" (but somewhat retrofitted) 1993 Schwinn Crosscut hybrid on a bike trail. A light run, only a warm up run, a bit more than 6 miles.

I plan to keep my 1993 Schwinn Crosscut hybrid regardless of whatever new bike I purchase. It is a wonderful ride, and does exactly what it was designed to do; this bike rides on paths, pavement, dirt, and light gravel . . . and the bike is in excellent condition, why part with it?

I do, however, have a more modern hybrid, a 2022 Giant Escape disc 1. I plan to use this bike for longer rides.

So yes, I rode today, and I will ride about 30 more miles before the upcoming weekend is over, mostly on the Giant this time. Next week, going to do a bike trail run in Florida (about 40 miles).

What did I do on the hybrid . . . today I tweaked the seat height, and handlebar settings. My neck was aching today from yesterday's ride. Not good. I ordered a new handle bar to put me in a better upright position. The current handlebar is a bit too aggressively "forward" from me. The next ride will determine if all is well.

What did I do for my hybrids today? I looked at them, pinched the tires, and walked away.

changed the big chainring on Quick 1 Disc - from 50t to 46t

so now have a 46-34 (Shimano offered 6800 crank with 50-34 and 46-36 rings - but not 46-34)

the 6800 46t ring has separate / individual chainring bolts - as opposed to the 50t ring where the chainring bolts screw directly into the chainring

each 46t chainring bolt cap is unique - identified with ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ markings to identify the correct location on the crank arm

I haven't even seen my hybrids today! Over the past couple of days, I spent some time in my man-cave working on one of my folding bikes and doing other stuff; I knew they were right there, but I hardly ever looked in their general direction. I've been meaning to give their chains a clean and lube, but never really got around to it.

I went to the bike shop (by car ) for a rear mudguard and a new bottle cage and installed the former. No pinching today, she had a headache. Or maybe she didn't and it was because I was watching p0rn, featuring the Van Nicholas Zion, with titanium frame, carbon forks, Mr Rohloff in her rear, tied with Gates belts man that bike is gorgeous, I think I will follow that design with my Toughroad.

I swapped the handlebars on my Crosstrail with Spank Spoon 60 (60mm rise), cut them down to ~660mm, love the position and feel. And they are inexpensive!

I also switched out handlebars today, on a Giant Escape 3 bike I put on spoon spike 800. Also put on bigger flat pedal. Still basically set up as it came, but with new handlebars and pedals.

On another Giant Escape Disc 1 bike, I replace the handlebars with butterfly bars and bigger flat pedals. I like this comfortable position. But I want the bars even higher! I’m going to change the brake wires out, so I can lift up the handlebars about 2 inches!

For my 1997 Trek 720 that I'm going to restore:

I ordered new tires (Kenda K830 700x35 gumwall) and new cantilever brakes (Shimano BR-CT91).

I had thought about upgrading to V-brakes but then I would have had to upgrade the levers as well and I just didn't want to put that money into it. Besides, I would like to keep the retro look and the BR-CT91s meet that goal.

Also bought new Shimano brake and derailleur cable kits.

Not mine but did some upgrades to my wife’s Verve 3. Replaced the Trek platform pedals with Raceface Rides in purple and installed a water bottle relocation bracket to give more bottle clearance. (I picked up an older Trek 800 mtb which will receive the old Trek pedals if I flip it.) I picked up the Ride pedals for $25 so it was a reasonable upgrade. I hope she likes them.

New Thumb Tap shifters

I replaced worn GripShift MRX shifters with microSHIFT Thumb Tap parts on my Raleigh M40. Unlike traditional lever-and-trigger shifters, both controls are operated by pushing forward with one's thumb. As a former year-round bike commuter in the Midwest, traditional lever-and-trigger shifters were a nonstarter for me because the trigger was almost impossible to operate while wearing mittens. While I remain a GripShift partisan, variety is the spice of life.

2000 (?) Raleigh Eclipse CX. Installed front and rear wheels. Stripped all the paint and rust off the handlebar, sanded, and put two coats of primer on it.

Had fun shopping for my wife's Verve 3 - Replaced the original Tektro brakes with Shimano Alivio. I scored them for $30 total on sale while hunting for parts for project bike.

New sneakers for the Trek FX Carbon. Ready for the rail trails now. Probably set them as tubeless this Winter.

Tire swap

Swapped out a pair of aging tires on my Iguana in favor of these Continental Town & Country doughnuts with a reverse tread pattern.

How do those T&C tires ride? They’ve always intrigued me a little bit because of their interesting tread pattern.

I think of them as a fancy-looking center ridge tire. They ride very smoothly when the bike is bolt upright, but you'll feel a little "thrum" when inclined in a turn. I don't think Conti still makes these, but the the Serfas Drifter is similar.

Today I transplanted my rear rack. This is now the third bike I have had it on. Fabricated a L angle and a arm to mount the front of the rack using a pre tapped hole on the frame. Back supports just needed a bit of muscle to widen the frame work to slip over the factory mounts. Went to ACE and bought new stainless bolts, washers and nylocks. I had the aluminum flat stock and L angle. Came out pretty clean.

Just added the seat bag Friday.

Prepped and filled a bunch of frame acne on the beater 1991 Trek 750 that followed me home a few weeks ago. Would probably be more effective to take the frame back down to metal and start from scratch (pun intended), but I want to see how what result I can achieve with conservative therapy before I go through the hassle of sourcing decals etc.

Yes those are shocks in the wine rack. I have laid down a cord of vintage SIDs and Mag 21s for the kids to enjoy.
