Bianchi info please...
Hello all;
Today I purchased this Bianchi road bike. The seller did not know much about it. I am contemplating putting it back to stock form, but need your help regarding the original components. It's currently a mix! Any help is appreciated. Is this a 1980s model? I can remove the cable guide under the BB if it may help. Thank you!

Hi Steve , for some reason I can't reply to your PM . I am certainly no expert on Bianchi . Although I did build one as you can see , I learned some but only about my model . Mine was a lower level model , yours is a upper (I think) . I believe yours to be a upper 80's bike of racing pedigree . Velobase is a very good site to research your bike and it's original components , it's a bit hard to use intel you get used to it , at least for me .

My Bianchi Campione d'Italia is a 1982 model, made in late 1981, also with butted main tubes (mine are Columbus, yours would presumably be comparable) and Falck CrMo forks and stays. It's a notch below the high-end models ("the good stuff"), but significantly above the various base models. Yours is a few years newer, so my original component list might not help.
I do have spare Campag. and Modolo (OEM ca. 1980) sidepull brake calipers that should fit your frame, if you are interested in either one. (I switched to Shimano dual pivot for significantly superior braking performance.)

IMHO the OEM gear was sometimes not the best a Ofmega Quattro group made of goodies from Ofmega HS,Cranks, Hubs, ITM bar/stem, Modolo brakes and Suntour Shifters. I'm not sure if it was the TLC he showed it but I know one of these we sold was a POS but others seemed to have had great luck with them.
Personally I'd recomend an overhaul and only changing the brake pads (I almost always put new ones a 'new 2 me' bike, and put some fritcion or retro friction downtube shifters. I like these Alpha 5000 brakes bettter than the Quattro/Mach One calipers it came with. The Edge is probably as good or maybe nicer than the QUattro it came with.

Thank you for the replies, and thank you for the great info, bianchigirl! It appears the bike is a bit more stock than I thought.
This Bianchi popped up for sale for $60, so I had to get it. I already have a 1980-ish Japanese Bianchi that was used 3 times in the past 40+ years. It is a veritable time capsule (original bar tape, pump, water bottle, seat etc.). It sports Shimano 600 components...

That's a great price. I'll try and look for this Beige Beauty a little later when I get home but it looks '81/82ish maybe a Special or Limited but not sure when that model name started.
