Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Saul Raisin wants to do Kona. You can help.

Hey folks,

If you don't know who Saul Raisin is, you should spend a little time learning about him.

He rode for Credit Agricole until a crash left him with a traumatic brain injury that nearly killed him. He's made a remarkable recovery and continues to ride, although not competitively. This past fall he did a triathlon in Las Vegas (iirc) and placed in the to half of his age group with very little prep. This year his goal is to go to Kona, but without qualifying he has two options -- a media slot or the Konainspired contest on Facebook.

He's from Dalton GA and happens to visit my neighborhood from time to time and I've gotten to know him and had the chance to ride with him. I count him as a friend.

So I'm shamelessly asking you folks for help getting him to Kona.

Please follow the link below and vote as often as you'd like. Also, if you're interested in learning more I highly recommend his book Tour De Life. Currently Saul is lobbying on behalf of Traumatic Brain Injury causes.

Thank you.

I would think Kona would be glad to have him and give him a media slot.

I remember his crash and recovery. He was set to return to the pros but the doctors said it was too dangerous. Even a small crash or fall could be deadly.

Done. I too would think NBC or whoever does the 60 min coverage of Kona would want him in...their whole show every year is all about the stories of the athletes and they are all about the tear jerkers...this would surely be one of their feature stories.

Is something supposed to happen when you click on "vote now"? Or do you just check the little heart at the bottom left.

Anyway, checked. Twice from two different computers.

I don't think it does anything other than acknowledge the votes. The more the votes the better! That's all I know. Hopefully the media access will come through.

I had the opportunity to meet Saul in 2008 at the US Pro Cycling Championship in Greenville and found him to be really nice. He was there with his girlfriend, hanging around talking with fans.
