NH dirt tour

Trying get some more info about NH snow mobile trails for summer bike use. I have a map, not that detailed. Going from Southern NH up and around Lake Winnipesaukee and back down to MA.

Only time I tried to use a snow mobile trail for mt. biking in other-then-winter, I found it incredibly overgrown with vegetation, as well as swampy in many sections. This was up north near the Conn. river valley.

Unless it's a maintained dirt road and/or a dedicated mt. bike trail, a trail may be impassable. Snow machines generally have no issues crossing frozen swamps, as well, vegetation is dead in winter.

Something to consider.

Not sure about about NH, but here in Vermont the snowmobile trails often are on private land. The landowners grant access to VAST/snowmobiles for the winter. If you are using the trail in any other season, that would be trespassing. Of course this does not apply to state/federal lands.

The note on the left side of this map notes the same for NH: https://www.nhstateparks.org/uploads...rridor_Map.pdf

Did you use your scroll wheel to zoom in to the highest level of detail? I find that map to be incredibly detailed. It shows every secondary road crossing along with topograpy. For example, if I zoom in on the Bear Notch Trail System near Bartlett NH the map shows intricate loops that are regular local mountain bike rides. The question that others raise about summer non snow machine use is valid.

I'll look more into this, map and off season usage. Thanks. I stand corrected, map looks good.

I live in Sunapee and most of the snowmobile trails around here are either private property or on old rail trail, some of which are now private property as well. I would stick to dedicated mountain bike trails or rail trail if you want to stay off road. There are plenty of town, even highway roads, that don't have that much traffic on them. Trying to find any kind of long haul trail you can legally follow isn't going to be easy.
