Seeking knowledgeable vintage mechanic

Hello All,
I recently bought a 1958 Olmo Professional Deluxe in original condition but in need of inspection and rebuild by a knowledgeable mechanic. I'm seeking recommendations of a bike shop with a mechanic familiar with 50's era bicycles within a 50 mile radius of Santa Barbara.
Any and all recommendations will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rick Longoria

There’s a shop in Arroyo Grande that looks like they specialize in vintage bikes. Ira’s Bike Shop on Bridge Street in the Village.

thinking/hoping there may be some bien nacido or santa rita hills pinot involved in a barter/swap here...i'll go with the old school bien nacido as i know rick delivers the goods.
never found the longoria style flashy or trendy in the last 25+ years but one of the few in this world of sizzle and no steak consistently true to varietal. congrats! enjoy the
vintage machine and the challenging roads in the area.
throw some 25's or 28's on that bad boy and hit the north side of refugio rd. up to the summit and back.

I didn't expect to be outed for my day job in a bike forum but kind of makes sense, classic wine and classic steel machines are not that far apart. Thanks for the kind words. I appreciate the ride suggestion but I'm afraid my old legs wont' be up to climbing the refugio grade with the Olmo's 47 x 22 gearing. Possible Pinot trade. Let's talk.
Cheers,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've walked by that shop while stopping in the Village for lunch but never went in. I will make a point to stop in the next time I'm in AG.

Cheers,
i meant a barter/swap with the mechanic. i've never been able to keep my hands off the delicious central coast burgundian and rhône styled stuff long enough to age/cellar them past two years
after release.

hoping you're able to manage east camino cielo from the top of san marcos pass to the summit of gibraltar rd. and back. arguably the most scenic < 20 miles ride
in california south of the imaginary <west/east > line between lompoc and lake havasu city, az all the way south to the mexican border.
some definite rollers but no shame in resting....er...taking in the views of the pacific ocean on one side and the santa ynez valley on the other.
great curves and decent enough pavement at your own pace.

been riding for a few vintages, used to indulge or just caught the bug?

Well a bit far, but if you are willing to go to Camarillo, check out Bill's bike Shop (2370 E Las Posas Rd # A, Camarillo, CA 93010). Phone number is 805-484-1203 and talk with Mark. I love looking at the classic bikes they have in the shop, and think they would be a good choice to check out for working on your '58 Olmo.

I've been a recreational rider for 30 + years, but just recently got the vintage bike bug. I try to take a 50 minute lunch time ride 3-4 times a week from the winery in Lompoc south on Miguelito Canyon road, 11 miles round trip, 500' elevation gain on my triple Giant Defy. Will have to try the Camio Cielo ride some day. Hope to find a mechanic that likes wine!

Thanks for the great suggestion. I'm not opposed to driving an hour or so to have a qualified mechanic work on my Olmo. I will definitely check out the shop and talk with Mark.

This thread is badly in need of pics. A 1958 Olmo Professional Deluxe, how cool is that? My 1960 Olmo Gran Sport was sold out of a shop from SoCal.

Richard,
Just be sure to call the shop first before you make the drive. I hate for you to show up only to find that they are not equipped for your needs.

Good luck!

I tried to post some photos of my Olmo but I got a message that I'm not authorized to post any photos until I've posted 10 posts. I may see if I can start a new post in the Classic & Vintage Forum about my Olmo.
