Freaking Wind !!!

S'posed to go for a ride tonight but it is freakin' WINDY! No way, not safe. I love riding in the wind but when trees start falling over and taking its roots with it, I draw the line!

In the IE, not sure about the other areas but it's crazy here!

Howling here in Lake Forest. My daughter lives in the Calabasas area, she’s all packed up and ready to evacuate from the fire.

yeah, good idea. I went out during a wet nor'easter a cpl weeks ago & was rethinking my decision for the whole ride as I dodged fallen branches, some quite large. luckily nothing came down near me that I witnessed. it was a short ride but it only takes a split second to get hit by a tree

Weather Underground said 20-30mph from the NNE, and they were spot on. I was home from my ride by noon, and the breeze was just barely starting to pick up. I think the universe took pity on me after riding directly into 25mph winds for 3+ hours on both October 1st and November 1st.

Supposed to get some afternoon winds 12-15mph late morning / early afternoon here in the IE, I might got for a short walk in the morning instead. Wind while walking makes little difference at all. Had a couple of days back in March/April where I looked at the wind gauge and just put the running shoes on. Some days it's not worth fighting the wind. It is without mercy.

We have less worry of that because the branches are usually on fire, which increases conspicuity.

Yes good decision to skip last night's ride. Tree crews out there this morning cutting up fallen trees on local streets.

I did have a buddy who rode a pretty good ride yesterday in the San Dimas area. I'm guessing his early ride and different area made his ride a bit safer than last night's wind. Lucky guy is retired and rides any time of day.

I got in a quick 25 miler right at sunrise yesterday. The weather guy said winds would kick up around 8am, and boy was he right! I'm in Eastvale, where the winds really suck, and coming home I was cruising at 24mph with almost no effort! Thank dog I wasn't trying to ride East!

To dodge the wind, I drove to Palos Verdes to ride yesterday. Due to the coastal hills, PV is rarely being affected by Santa Ana wind.

There are lots of challenging climbs: Big One, Crownview, Mother-in-Laws..

i've hit peevee more than a few times during santa ana conditions that found any one of/combo of the santa monicas, angeles, san berdoos, santa ana mtns ablaze.
i've always found the air quality good/better than elsewhere during those conditions. just in a sweet spot with the winds/fallout.

I almost thought about doing GMR over the weekend as the wind here hasn't seemed to stop much over the last few days. But then remembered a few years back on a ride with a few forum members, one guy got blown over by the wind on GRR and was knocked out cold! Maybe I better not ha ha!

Dead calm out here since Friday. No complaints.

Though seemingly in one day, we went from mid-50s overnight lows to low-40s. Downright chilly in the morning, when it's still hitting near 80º in the afternoon.

Wow! Near the Eastvale area, blowing like crazy rattling the house windows. Friends who rode the OC SART said it was like a tornado near Yorba Park.

When it gets windy like it's been, I just switch to the mountain bike and play in the dirt. Much less affected by the wind on a heavy bike at low speeds. Plus, lots of places to ride that are sheltered by topography, trees, etc.

Yeah, a buddy of mine works heavy construction out in Irvine, he's been getting sent home / called off because the winds are too high to run the plant. I'm just sticking to the east end of the valley, where there's no wind at all. Every ride where I've ventured west, the winds kick up before I even make Fontana, and then it's just a sufferfest. It's a bummer, because I like to ride out and have lunch with the wife at least once every 2 weeks, but she works in Rancho Cucamonga and the wind out there can be brutal... and seemingly never at my back.

Yeah that's an idea. But haven't been on my MTB in about a year. :-(
