So I'm joining my university's cycling team...
Hi everybody,
I'm pretty new to the bikeforums, been lurkin for a while but I figure it's time to GET SERIOUS.
As it's my first year in the Collegiates, I'm glad that I'll be starting out at the bottom of the categories. I've got three races under my belt, but only two were officially sanctioned, and one of those was a cyclocross in Nowhere, OR. Just a little background.
I attended my first team meeting tonight, heard lots of fun stories (15 hour drives to Montana, race crashes, etc) - from what I've heard, the beginning of the season is an absolute train wreck. I really just want to get some other opinions:
What's collegiate road cycling really like? Speciffically (or not), in the North West Conference?

Nowhere State University has a cycling team?
Bike racing is pretty much the same everywhere at the level you're talking about. The main objective is to avoid running into other riders (which can be done in an alarming number of ways).
The sooner you plug yourself into the group, the sooner those stories become yours, and the sooner you start climbing the ladder.

Collegiate cycling is a lot of fun. You get to race with a lot of the same people every weekend, and meet a lot of people not only from your team, but from teams in your conference.

Colllege racing is the most fun ever.
Nothing but good. Just get and there and do it.
Move up to C's as quickly as possible though. Much less death and destruction.
Be prepared for your grades to tumble. My race results were inversely proportionate to my GPA at the time.
