2010 Marin Fairfax Alp or 2008 Trek 7.5 FX

Hi,

I'm planning to buy a bike for 50-60 mins commute in the morning and riding around college campus. For Marin, the price is $300 and the trek costs $450. Even though both of them are used, they're in excellent condition. Which one is worth more bang for your bucks?

Sorry I can't offer specific advice. I can tell you that I have both a Trek 7.5 & a Marin ALP series bike (Mill Valley). I like them both. The Mill Valley is a faster, more performance oriented bike (and is MUCH stiffer). The Trek is more comfortable. For commuting, I'd choose the 7.5. They are both nice bikes, but I just find the Trek to be a more enjoyable ride.

Thanks for the input. I've decided to buy the Marin because it fits into my budget better. The Trek Fx is also really nice! Is there anything i should look out for when riding the Marin? pros/cons?

I'd test ride it before you bought it. Again, it's a different bike than mine, but mine rides really stiff. If you like the ride, you'll be fine. I haven't had any other issues with my Marin to date. It's been a great bike.
