trek fx 7200 2nd hand from craigs list.
Hi every one,
just want to first say thanks for all the reading ive been doing over the past few days. It made me comfortable enough to post here. I am looking for a bike to ride to/from school when ever the weather is good enough. Its about 14miles each way. I was reading the trek fx series is a good bike so i looked at cl to see if i could find a deal. There was 1, for 250$ for the trek fx 7200, looks like its in good shape some scratches on the frame nothing big. But i dont want to buy this if its just going to break under my weight. Im currently around 360# and 6'3". The person posted these specs for it:
Trek 7200 FX
frame is 20" (51cm)
31" standover
i read to get a 36 spoke wheel. I can count 32 on the ad.
ive been to one lbs in the past and it really put me off cycling for quite some time. I was told i was too heavy to ride, and thus ive been too ashamed to return.
i was hoping to get everything i need to start for under $400. Since im a college student, money is always tight. Any tips from here on out would be great as well.

Today is the last day to get $50 towards ALL Bontrager accessories. Bikes on sale thru end of April.

The Trek FX is sturdy enough. I had problems with spokes breaking, then had the wheel professionally rebuilt. Not really cheap, but worth it. If that bike is used, and showing some wear, you may be able to talk the price down a little.

I started with a Trek 7100, 20", and here's my 2 cents. The 20" frame was as tall a frame as I wanted, I'm 6'1" (ish), but I have short legs for my height (imo), with 36" inseam jeans being the size I wear. The 7200 has a freehub 36 spoke wheel (on all the models I looked at). The 7100 was a 36 spoke freewheel design, the freehub is a stronger hub for weight, as the bearings get moved further out on the drive side. I broke 1 spoke, and found the wheel and axle bent, but I don't know if it was me, or if it was bent when I bought it. I was 300 pounds when I started riding it. $250 is a "meh" price to me for the bike, not exciting either way.
