Rather than run through a big pile of saddles, what is everyone's experience with the most comfortable saddle for someone who rides upright -knowing that most saddles are created for those who tilt their pelvises (or pelvi?) forward. My stoker is 5'3", 125lbs and full of energy. What's worked best for teams that use bullhorn handlebars?

Change to drop bars for the stoker! She can still choose to sit upright but has other choices too.

Generally wider, the higher you sit up, is a saddle industry wide lore..

at the bike shop rarely does the customer want a narrower saddle

Than what came on the bike, originally.., so aftermarket the saddles that sell are wider..

so, say, in the Brooks Cambium line , for example; the C19 ..rather than the C17..

Cannot sit on an opinion, So go try out saddles.. in person ....

We ride upright with straight bars. We ride on Sunlite Cloud-9 Bicycle Suspension Comfort Saddle, We have tried a number of saddles and like the comfort of the Cloud-9 best. YMMV, since all butts are not equal.

We use drop bars but my wife sits pretty upright. She has used Terry Butterfly Gel and Selle Italia Diva.
She prefers the Diva. Both are fairly wide and somewhat cushy.

tandem rider

I have found, that a narrow nose is more comfortable for myself and my stoker. I measure the nose width at 5 cm from the tip of the saddle. Two or three mm makes a difference. Recently, I found an old Specialized saddle that has a narrow nose. My stoker tried the saddle and really likes it. Of course, Specialized still makes the model but have changed the nose and made it wider.

The Terry Butterfly and Selle Italia Diva seem to be popular for women but have a wider nose than some other saddles.

These are the two brands my Wife/Stoker is using with good success. She has a Terry Liberator X Gel which is a little wider and a bit more cushion then the Butterfly on our Co-motion. and the Selle Italia Lady Flow on the Bushnell. Both have been good saddles for her but I don't know if their is a great saddle for the position Stokers use. :-)

For a while, my wife loved the Selle Royal Scientia R > 2 -- which promotes / supports a 90 degree upright seated position. It's well padded and/but heavy.

Our new tandem came with the Selle Italia Lady Gel Flow -- which she has come to love even more. It's a bit more sporty, but still relaxed -- enough so that she feels like she could "stay in the saddle all day".
