Do you dismount on one side only?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good theory, and I think it's valid. I don't even think I could dismount/mount from the right if I had to do it for money.

Yeah, now that I think about it the kickstand makes a lot of sense. There was a little trick where I would flick the kickstand up with my right toe, put my left foot on the pedal and swing my right foot over.

Could left side bicycle mounting be a holdover from horseback riding days? Standard practice for most riding is to mount the horse on the lefthand side.

Right side for me.. my right foot is better at clipping in/out than my left.. i dunno why.. I clip in left foot then mount.. then at stops, i unclip my right foot and lean on it.

Left.
I'm ambidextrous but unclipping my left still feels intuitive. My right foot has to be in the 6 o'clock position before I unclip though. If i ever have to unclip mid-stroke, I usually curse the heavens.

Both. Riding a fixie with clipless for the commute has made sure of it. Probably left if I had to pick though.

Yeah, ok, I guess I'm still considered relatively new here. But really? What's next....which leg do you put your bib on first? Or another dilemma, do your sunglasses go over or under the helmet strap? In fact, what do the pro's do and that's what I'll do cause it's cool. Just sayin'.

Submit to SNL's "really?" sketch.

Dude, you joined up! I'm just sayin'.

Also, before long you will start threads much more inane than this.

Whichever side the higher ground (or curb) is on. I guess you guys don't ride mountain bikes off road.

I'm a left dismounter too. Never thought about why before (and even would think I'd want to be a right dismounter as l'd want to start off pushing down with my left leg as it's my power leg), but I think you're right.

Also, if you do CX, you pretty much train yourself to always dismount and remount on the left.

What a useless thread. I mean seriously, what difference does it make?
It's just a list of left, left, right, left, right....

Same here. Gotta pay attention, though, if you are stopping on some sort of cross-slope, or if there's someplace solid to put your foot down. I stopped on my mountain bike once on the side of a hill, and out of habit put my left (downhill) foot down, overbalanced and fell over, struck my knee on a rock and broke my kneecap.

And even this topic has been done before.

As for me, if the edge of the bed is on the right , I dismount to the left... and vice versa

Oh, you meant bikes ? I always unclip one foot, then the other.

This. Someday you'll come to a stop, unclip on the right, and be leaning a touch to the left. If you're equally comfortable unclipping either foot, not a problem, if you never unclip the left, you're likley falling.

I'm more coordinated on my left side. The right side seems stronger. If I had to elbow someone I'd do it with my right. If I tried to elbow someone and missed I'd want it to be with my left. GL
