Hi,
So I'm just really curious about niji bikes. I haven't been able to find anything at all about them online. The reason is that I just built a single speed out of a niji frame and I'm just curious about the frame's history or at least what the bike company was about.

I know right, it's not as though I haven't looked, but I really can't find anything. And it's definitely just Niji, the name is on the bike in two or three different places. It would be cool if it was a fuji nishiki hybrid tho.

I'm a bit late in this post, but i also have a NIJI bike, it's a Concorde model. I think it is from the 1990's and it's made in Canada. I already strip the bike for a paint job, but i think it was right "1081 steel tubing" on it. Low end bike!? Maybe... but nice looking bike, nice frame shape and tubes finish! I have no idea what was the hardware on it, the crack was replace by a peugeot and there is no brand on brake calipers and levers...

I also will build a "fixed" track style with it. It's waiting for new paint!

I will post some pictures soon, so perhaps somebody else will try to find some infos about NIJI bikes and find this post!

i had two NIJI bikes in my life first one was a 1983 chrome BMX and the second one was a light green touring bicycle with shimano 600. They where bought at the time at a RO-NA store near quebec city (Quincaillerie Durand). This hardware store had a sport banner called "Podium Sport" and they were an autorised dealer. I wish i could find my BMX back. was so cool with the nice tubing shapes. i loved it.

I am bringing this back up cause i saw a Niji bike for sale and couldn't find any info about Niji bike.
So if anyone now know a little bit about those bike, let me know.

My first mountain bike was a Niji Brousse, bought in Montreal Canada at the end of 1991. I have tried to get more info on the brand without much luck. All I remember it was a Norco sub brand along with others.maybe lower end sold in non specialty shops mainly and probably mostly in Quebec or Eastern Canadian States.

When I'm looking at used bikes and see a name that Google cant find, or cant find much info on, I just go by the components. That generally tells you all you need to know - low end, mid level, or high end. That Niji brand sounds like dept store stuff, prolly why there's little info around on it...

About all I could find about Niji bikes were that they were made in Japan, and apparently sold in Canada. May have been a house brand for a shop or chain.

The alloy 1081 would be plain carbon steel with the "81" indicating .81% carbon, possibly for more stiffness?

I joined this forum specifically to answer what I know about the Niji Bikes.
I ALSO have a niji bike. It's an old beater from the 90s I think. At one point I guess it was a good bike.
Shifter is shinamo of sorts. Two gas throttle like buttons on the right handle bar. Shift up / shift down. (Two thumb throttle buttons, like a 4 wheeler, but 4 wheelers only have one.)
The shifter on the left handle bar is a plain selector for Hi-Med-Low.
It is a 15 or 18 or 21 speed bike. (Only noticed it had 3 sprockets near the front.
It was ALSO purchased from Podium Sport. (In Maniwaki, Quebec) Therefore I think it was a house brand.

It is in OK shape, but I am looking for a city cruiser only. I only used it because it was free from the back of my dads garage.

I rod it to work this morning (Downtown Ottawa).

Any other information you need?

Odd this coming up now, there is a Niji bike on the buy and sell in Ottawa, not too far from Montreal.
Looks like a typical bike boom bike.

So, they CLAIM, it was made in Canada... But that weird writing on the frame looks half 80s beach bum style, and half Japanese.
Also did not find a serial number anywhere. I think it might have been where the "Made in Canada" sticker was ?!?
Notice the Podium sticker. Shinamo 100 I think. Chain hasn't been oiled since the 90s... It was a tedious ride in this morning.

The one I had was Niji Brousse, frame was Hi-Tensil 1081 lugged steel frame, with made in Canada on the drive side chainstay.

The drivetrain was a mix of Shimano SIS , Sugino crankset.
