Did a hill climb and felt invincible post race (I think I get that feeling whenever I PR) so I rode to the coast and did a couple more climbs to make it a 5 hour ride. Felt good enough to throw in some tempo and threshold efforts, ended up with 270 TSS (or I guess, "load", since I'm using CA and its not the same calculation as Coggan's TSS). One of those magical days where it feels like there's a constant tailwind and the chain doesn't exist. I did the reverse of a loop I did for the first time a month ago, so I considered it to be practically 'new' roads because I'd never done it in that direction before.

Depending on how my legs feel I might do another coastal ride tomorrow with a group (the 'A' ride). I've been wary of joining them because I'm afraid I won't be able to keep up with them on the descents (I think I'll be fine uphill or flats, but I go into full granny-mode on descents), but tomorrow's route seems like one I'd be able to keep up on (or maybe I can start the descent early and group up with them at the bottom instead of waiting at the top?).

What's the route tomorrow? I'll likely be there. It's often pretty chill pace, except when Fudgy shows up and strings it out half the ride!

Training Status:
Nothing during this week except ride to the train, then ride from train to new job, then back in the evening. I love riding in SF rush hour traffic though! Spectrum ride today, sat in and went for all the sprints. 2 of the sprints, late break gets away, then I chase after and don't have quite enough space. One sprint was downhill high speed and I came out late, afraid of the huuuge wind at those speeds and got 2nd. Final sprint late break gets away and a few guys chasing hard, I get suckered into going early and leading out the pack. That may be just as tough a workout as when I work my but off and skip the sprints!

Two and a half hours in the woods in the SS. Put an easier gear on and was having a blast with friends until I went over the bars at slow speed and managed to land ribs first on a rock. Damage report to follow I guess.

Thanks folks. I think I'm ok. A sharp pain now and again, and I'm compensating with my breath. But it's not omg kinda rib stuff. How I sleep why'll be the real litmus test.

What gear Mike? I used to do mondo miles on a 42x17

^feel better man.

what's mondo mikes? i'm on 48*18 right now which is pretty decent for around here, although i've never ridden anything else. if i were in a place with more climbing i'd definitely go smaller.

48x18 was my fixed gear of choice. Glad you are feeling better Gsteinb. I crushed three ribs in April and they still hurt at times.

Rode a group ride with @Ygduf and @aaronmcd - it was fun to meet new people to ride with after 2 years of almost exclusively solo riding. Special thanks to Ygduf who was really awesome in making it such a good experience. One benefit of riding with a group was getting PRs on nearly every segment by virtue of having both a draft and slightly more motivation. My pack skills are clearly out of practice, I'm pretty sure everyone from back home who original taught me to ride in a group would be mortified by how rusty I am. My work is cut out for me.

Felt surprisingly fine after yesterday's ride (though not fine enough to catch Ygduf on the climbs) and 225 TSS today brings me to very close to the "1000 TSS week" which I haven't attained since August. I think the fact that this week didn't include the usual 50 miles of running is a pretty large contributing factor to why I still feel fresh.

Recovery ride, rushed out the door, broke the golden rule of always checking your equipment and quickly swapped into my training wheels. Halfway into the ride, I shifted into the spokes and broke 2. Blech. First spokes broke in 11 years of riding.

Climbed too much, dropped by a cat 6.

First real ride in a while, felt good to get out.

Training is going great, feeling awesome on the bike but, alas, there are no more races here.
Yesterday was the big Tour ride that everyone gets excited about here. I didn't participate this time because it costs over $150 and is basically 2 hours of trying not to crash and 30 minutes of racing. Like a cross between a gran fondo and a cat 5 crit. Everyone usually chills out on the group rides after that event. I don't feel ready to chill out, which is a good sign. I raced a lot earlier this year and haven't felt burned out at all

Was supposed to do 175 TSS yesterday, but the legs were just dead. So, I did about 140 which brings the week up to ~500. First weekend back at it and I'm already tired. Going to retest FTP this week for establishing winter power metrics. Not looking forward to it.

Had one of those commutes to work the day after a double race weekend where I think, at different times: "mmm, spinning out feels good," and "oh MAN my legs are just blasted." So yeah. Recovery day.

Some efforts up to Oak Glen, my TSB is positive but the legs are still a bit off from yesterdays' race.

Looks like we are going to have a real winter this year so I have to devise my training around the weather.

New 3-5min VO2 max power numbers yesterday by pretty wide margin, just in time for the off season. I timed this peak so well!

Today is off. In negotiations with the coach as to what constitutes a break and how long this break needs to be.

We've had about 3-4 good storms / monsoons since September.

Some years it doesn't even rain til December.

Supposed to rain Friday.
