Pedalling to good health

Just came from an eye appointment. Apparently my eye doctor had recorded possible diabetic retinopathy in my chart at my last visit. He removed it today. No signs of diabetes or pre-diabetes. Down 40 pounds and apparently have fought off diabetes. (Will still keep my blood sugar under control with healthy diet and exercise).

Well done!

See you out on the road (if you ever come this far south).

nice! diabetic retinopathy is nothing to play with. I have AMD, which while a different cause, can have similar results and treatment. Getting needles in the eye ball is not that fun (not as bad as you might expect). I've had to have shots in both.

Yes I'm interested in hearing about this too. Any particular diet or exercise plan? My last hba1c was borderline. Doctor said with weight loss I'd be ok but my weight has gone up since. I've at least 50kg to lose.

I was "prediabetic for years." 6'3" and topped the scale at over 300 pounds. The scale only went to 300, so I quit weighing myself.

I drink Black coffee (espresso for me); water during the day; ONE BEER with dinner. That's it. No soda, diet soda has a nasty effect of making you crave sugar. Just don't drink it.

I eliminated "added sugar"; things like natural apples and oranges are OK, but keep an eye out for added sugar. Catchup has a lot of sugar, cut way back. Use mustard on that hot dog.

Bread and Pasta were my next items. Starches convert to sugar.

I had a 44-inch waist and needed those 4x t-shirts.

It's been slow and steady. Started boxing three times a week (It is like boxing/cross fit/yoga/core exercise). The class was a killer when I began but adjusted.

Eating sensible and Exercise. For Four years later, 235 pounds. 38" waist; 2XL shirts seem baggy.

Slow progress is good. Blood sugar way down. (5.3)

I need to get my eyes checked.
