July 16 2019 Craigslist game - some bounce in your step

Hi everyone! Today's challenge is inspired by the most recent C&V MTB thread. Get on your local Craigslist, Pinkbike, Kijij, Offer Up, Facebook Marketplace, Let Go, what have you, and find...

...the oldest full suspension mountain bike for sale in your area.

Soft Ride / Flex Stem combos permitted. But otherwise, seats with springs don't count.

Well, I would define full suspension as having a sprung front and rear, but I'll play. Determining the year of manufacture will be the challenge for this game.

Here's a '90-ish Hard Rock... for forty bucks...

How about this? Seller says it's 1970's Norco.

Wow! Not sure anyone's going to beat that. Although a purist might say it's a muscle bike.

1995 Specialized Stumpjumper FSR 19.5” - $500 (Madison)

Tange Prestige tubing for the main triangle, rear is aluminum.

Mix of XT and XTR. Judy XC Fork, Fox ALPS 4 rear shock.

Front and rear suspension both move and feel decent. Rear pivots are all tight with no play. Wheels spin true with good spoke tension.

Considering its age, this bike is in excellent shape.

Not BMX? Which must have provided significant DNA to the classic mountain bike.

Good point... but this one skipped a generation I was going by banana seat and really high stem. My mental picture of a BMX is a freestyle with pegs and a really short stem, which kept me from going there. By the time of my childhood in the 80's BMX bikes all looked the same and banana seats and high bars were only found on "girl bikes." 1975 would be about right. The serial number format seems to match what T-Mar gives us for Fuji, but the only 1975 Fuji catalog I found online is curly handlebar adult bikes.

edit... it's a Kent! KMX750, and it was not alone in the marketplace

I forgot to circle back... this frame was apparently sold by several brands, Kent being the first one that showed up in a Google search for "1975 full suspension BMX." But the same web crawl taught me the more sought after one was by Yamaha, or at least was sold as a Yamaha. These frames are regarded as "preschool," that is, before old school.

Here's a really cool thread from here on BF: https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...ke-1974-a.html

Here is a "Black Horse" submitted to BMX Museum by user tito grahito

The lister on Craigslist says it is 1978. It looks like it has a 5 speed freewheel.

Cannondale Super V 3000 full suspension mountain bike - $695 (Eagan, MN)

They say it's a '93 but I'm too lazy to confirm by looking at catalogs.

They only used those "Force 40" widgets for two or three years switching over from canti to V brakes. They provide a cable stop at the fender hole allowing use of cantis with suspension
